REVIEW: NECROPHOBIC – The Nocturnal Silence

NECROPHOBIC – The Nocturnal Silence

HammerHeart Records

The Nocturnal Silence marks the debut fulllength from the Swedish death metal force NECROPHOBIC — not to be confused with the Polish thrash band of the same name. True to Sweden’s early extrememetal lineage, the album embraces a form of death metal that remains firmly rooted in the genre’s origins, enriched with black metal and thrash metal influences rather than the melodic direction that later defined much of the country’s scene.

Formed in 1989, NECROPHOBIC stand among the earliest wave of Scandinavian death metal acts, and this historical weight is evident throughout the record. Originally released in 1993 by Black Mark Production and later reissued in 2003 and now again by HammerHeart Records, the album returns with its raw power fully intact.

What strikes me most is the sheer extremity and intensity of the material. The band delivers sharp, memorable riffs, a tight and commanding rhythm section, and demonic vocal work that reinforces the album’s blasphemous, blackened aura. Everything feels cohesive, performed by musicians who already had a strong artistic identity from the very beginning.

In my view, The Nocturnal Silence stands as one of the strongest statements in blackened death metal — an album of might, precision, and atmosphere. For listeners who appreciate the darker, more unholy side of death metal, this rerelease offers a perfect opportunity to experience a true classic. If you missed it in 1993 or 2003, this is your third chance to claim a genuine black jewel for your collection.
