CRYSTAL WINDS, Long Live The King (2026)

Το βλέπεις και το καταλαβαίνεις.

Είναι η ολοκαίνουργια, δεύτερη πλήρης δουλειά της μπάντας από την Αθήνα. Ένα άλμπουμ που ήδη από το εξώφυλλο ουρλιάζει το επίθετο «επικό» περίτρανα. Η μπάντα, αποτελούμενη ιστορικά από τους Δημήτρη Γιαννακόπουλο, Γιάννη Βροντή, Θεόδωρο Κούγια, Ηλία Γερακάρη και Θανάση Βασσιλακόπουλο, παρότι έχει αρκετά χρόνια πίσω της, εμφανίστηκε για πρώτη φορά με το ομώνυμο E.P. το 2016. Ακολούθησε το πρώτο άλμπουμ Return to the Dark Age το 2021 και τώρα έχουμε στα χέρια μας μία ακόμη φρέσκια δουλειά τους.

Καταρχάς, πού ανήκουν; Το ύφος τους είναι ξεκάθαρα εστιασμένο στο κλασικό Heavy Metal, με αρκετά θέματα επικής φαντασίας να στολίζουν στιχουργικά τη μουσική τους και σε αυτόν τον δίσκο. Η παραγωγή είναι πιο κλασική — θα έλεγα σχεδόν 80s — με ήχο καλό, που αναδεικνύει όχι μόνο τις επιρροές της μπάντας, αλλά και την κατατάσσει στο ευρύτερο στυλ του νεότερου ελληνικού metal, το οποίο έχουμε δει να κάνει θαύματα τα τελευταία χρόνια.

Το απόλυτο υπέρ του δίσκου, πέρα από τη συνολική ποιότητα του υλικού, είναι η σωστή αναλογία κομματιών και συνολικής διάρκειας. Οχτώ τραγούδια κάτω της μίας ώρας είναι το προσωπικό μου κατώφλι ώστε να μη με κουράσει ένα άλμπουμ — και τα παιδιά το πιάνουν με μεγάλη άνεση. Δεν προσπαθούν να αποφύγουν τα κλισέ του ιδιώματος που εκπροσωπούν, αλλά τουλάχιστον τα χρησιμοποιούν με άνεση και χωρίς να πλατιάζουν.

Έχουμε λοιπόν τα:

Warlords, Long Live the King, King of Steel, For the Power and the Glory, Realm of Light, Battalion, Riders of Rohan, και το φινάλε με το άνω των δέκα λεπτών The Noble.

Το 8/10 τοποθετεί αυτή τη δουλειά στα άλμπουμ που χαρίζουν απλόχερα μεταλλική αναπτέρωση του ηθικού. Είναι σίγουρα κάτι νέο «από τα παλιά», που σε κάνει να χαίρεσαι που το ακούς και που υπάρχει. Νομίζω πως, αν το ακούσετε, θα κατανοήσετε απόλυτα τη λεκτική προσέγγισή μου.

You look at it and you just know.

This is the brand‑new, second full‑length release from the Athens‑based band — an album whose cover alone screams the word “epic” loud and clear. The band, historically consisting of Dimitris Giannakopoulos (Vocals), Giannis Vrontis (Guitar), Teo Kougias (Guitar), Ilias Gerakaris (Bass), Thanasis Vassilakopoulos (Drums), may have been around for quite a few years, but first appeared officially with their self‑titled E.P. in 2016. Their debut album Return to the Dark Age followed in 2021, and now we have another fresh work from them in our hands.

First things first: where do they belong stylistically? Their sound is firmly rooted in classic Heavy Metal, with plenty of epic‑fantasy themes once again adorning their lyrics. The production leans toward a more traditional approach — I’d even say almost 80s — with a solid sound that not only highlights the band’s influences but also places them comfortably within the broader style of the newer Greek metal scene, which has been doing wonders in recent years.

The album’s greatest strength, beyond the overall quality of the material, is its balanced tracklist and total runtime. Eight songs under an hour is my personal threshold for an album that won’t wear me out — and the band hits that mark effortlessly. They don’t try to avoid the clichés of the genre they represent, but at least they use them with ease and without overstretching anything.

So, the tracklist includes:

Warlords, Long Live the King, King of Steel, For the Power and the Glory, Realm of Light, Battalion, Riders of Rohan, and the ten‑plus‑minute finale, The Noble.

A solid 8/10 places this release among those albums that generously offer a much‑needed boost of metal‑fueled morale. It’s definitely something new from the old school — the kind of record that makes you glad it exists and glad you’re listening to it. I think that once you hear it, you’ll fully understand my choice of words.
