Επειδή γουστάρει, το έκανε...

Ένας διαφορετικός τραγουδιστής, ένα διαφορετικό άλμπουμ — κι ας αφήσουμε προσωρινά στην άκρη όσα έχουμε στο μυαλό μας για τη φωνή του, τόσο με τους Reflection ή οτιδήποτε άλλο έχει κάνει παλιότερα, όσο και τώρα με τους Achelous.

Μια δουλειά φτιαγμένη με όρεξη και μια καλώς εννοούμενη νοσταλγία για τον μελωδικό Hard ’N Heavy ήχο (έπος εδώ δεν έχει, τα ’παμε και καθαρίσαμε!), μέσα από έναν προσωπικό δίσκο με όλη τη σημασία της φράσης.

Φίλοι και συνεργάτες από… παντού και από όλες τις εποχές της παρουσίας του συμπράττουν με τον Chris και, στο μπλέντερ των ιδεών, χωράνε υλικά από το Slide It In και τους μετέπειτα Whitesnake, τα τρία πρώτα άλμπουμ των Bon Jovi, τους Dokken — όχι μόνο λόγω τίτλου — ίσως και λίγοι Journey μέσα στη συνταγή, αλλά και τα κλασικά των Y&T μέχρι το ’85. Όλα αυτά δένουν με ωραία πλήκτρα που δεν κουράζουν και γενικά με εκείνο το παλιό, όμορφο ηχόχρωμα, δοσμένο όμως μέσα από ένα σύγχρονο πρίσμα, με παραγωγή σημερινών προδιαγραφών και βεβαίως κρυστάλλινο ήχο.

Είναι ένα άλμπουμ για διασκέδαση; Ναι, είναι — και γιατί να μην είναι;

Αν και μέχρι στιγμής παίζουν επαναληπτικά κυρίως το I’m Alive, που είναι και το πιο «metal» κομμάτι του δίσκου, ξεχώρισα επίσης τα Breaking the Chains, Light My Fire, Day in Your Hell και Strangers in Love, Electrified.

A different singer, a different album — and let’s put aside for a moment whatever we may already have in mind about his voice, whether from his days with Reflection and anything else he’s done in the past, or now with Achelous.

This is a work made with genuine passion and a well-intentioned sense of nostalgia for the melodic Hard ’N Heavy sound (there’s no epic metal here — we already settled that!), delivered through a deeply personal album in every sense of the phrase.

Friends and collaborators from… everywhere, and from every chapter of his musical journey, join forces with Chris, and inside this blender of ideas you’ll find ingredients drawn from Slide It In-era and later Whitesnake, the first three Bon Jovi albums, Dokken — and not just because of the title — maybe even a touch of Journey in the mix, along with the classic Y&T sound up to around ’85. All of this comes together with tasteful keyboards that never become tiring and, overall, that wonderfully old-school sonic character, presented through a modern lens, backed by contemporary production values and a crystal-clear sound.

Is this an album made purely for fun? Yes, it is — and why shouldn’t it be?

Although I’m Alive — also the album’s most “metal” track — has been on repeat the most so far, I also singled out Breaking the Chains, Light My Fire, Day in Your Hell, and Strangers in Love, Electrified.
