Λοιπόν, υπήρχε μια εποχή που είχα στη δισκοθήκη μου αυστηρά τα τέσσερα πρώτα άλμπουμ. Αυτό το τέταρτο έχει στη φωνή τον γνώριμο και πολύ συμπαθή Joe Lynn Turner της πιο A.O.R. εποχής των Rainbow, του μεγάλου Blackmore, και αυτό είναι ένα μεγάλο ατού του δίσκου. Ο ηγέτης του γκρουπ, ο διάσημος Σουηδός κιθαρίστας (παίζει και το μπάσο σε κάποια κομμάτια, παρέα με τον Bob Daisley), ξεδιπλώνει ξανά το ταλέντο του και έχει μαζί του τους αδερφούς Jens και Anders Johansson σε πλήκτρα και τύμπανα, σε μερικές εντελώς κλασικές και αγαπημένες στιγμές, όπως τα Rising Force, Hold On, Heaven Tonight, Riot In the Dungeons, Deja Vu, Crystal Ball, Faster Than the Speed of Light. Αυτά ναι μεν έχουν μια πιο εμπορική και ίσως ακόμη και pop χροιά, αλλά αυτό συμβαδίζει με την εποχή που γράφτηκε και κυκλοφόρησε ο δίσκος, ήδη στα τέλη της δεκαετίας. Ένα άλμπουμ που θα τολμούσα να πω ότι είναι το τελευταίο καθαρόαιμο άριστα, βάσει βαθμολογίας, τουλάχιστον όσο αφορά την πρώτη αυτή εποχή του Malmsteen.

Neo-Classical Odyssey

So, there was a time when I strictly kept the first four albums in my record collection. This fourth album features the familiar and very likable Joe Lynn Turner from Rainbow’s more AOR era with the great Blackmore, and that is a major highlight of the record. The band’s leader, the renowned Swedish guitarist (who also plays bass on some tracks alongside Bob Daisley), once again showcases his talent. He’s accompanied by the Johansson brothers, Jens and Anders, on keyboards and drums, delivering some completely classic and beloved moments such as Rising Force, Hold On, Heaven Tonight, Riot In the Dungeons, Deja Vu, Crystal Ball, Faster Than The Speed Of Light. While these tracks have a more commercial and perhaps even pop-influenced sound, this fits with the era in which the album was written and released—already towards the end of the decade. An album I would dare say is the last truly pure, “excellent” in terms of rating, at least concerning Yngwie Malmsteen’s first era.
