Μετά τα Queen και Queen II, που είναι δίσκοι με ξεχωριστή θέση στην ιστορία του Progressive και Hard Rock, η επιτυχία άρχισε να μπαίνει σε ράγες για αυτούς τους τέσσερις ιδιαίτερους μουσικούς στο τρίτο τους άλμπουμ. Τα περισσότερα, αν όχι όλα, γράφτηκαν από τον ιδιαίτερο χαρακτήρα του ανερχόμενου υπεραστέρα και τραγουδιστή τους, Freddie Mercury (RIP), ο οποίος τότε είχε μακριά μαλλιά και δεν φορούσε το χαρακτηριστικό μουστάκι που τον ξέρουμε από τη δεκαετία του '80 (κάτω αριστερά στη φωτογραφία του εξωφύλλου). Ο επίσης αστέρας – και όχι μόνο λόγω των σπουδών του στην αστροφυσική και ακριβώς δεξιά του Freddie στη φωτογραφία – κιθαρίστας, Brian May, αρρώστησε λίγο πριν μπουν στο στούντιο και ανέλαβε την ευθύνη ο ερμηνευτής τους, ο οποίος δεν έχασε την ευκαιρία. Ένα από τα πιο επιδραστικά άλμπουμ στην ιστορία της ηλεκτρικής μουσικής, και μάλιστα για μουσικούς της επόμενης δεκαετίας που πίνουν νερό και αλκοόλ στο όνομα του. Ρωτήστε τους James Hetfield και Dave Mustaine από Metallica και Megadeth, τους Testament, τον Hansi από τους Blind Guardian, αλλά και τον Steve Harris των Iron Maiden, και θα δείτε το ιδιαίτερο βάρος, ειδικά κομματιών όπως τα Brighton Rock, Stone Cold Crazy (που το έχουν διασκευάσει και οι Metallica!), Tenement Funster, Now I’m Here, Flick of the Wrist, On the Lap of the Gods. Το Killer Queen μοιάζει σαν να γράφτηκε την εποχή των καμπαρέ, αλλά παραμένει το ομώνυμο τραγούδι τους. Ένα σύνολο που πλέον εισάγει το συγκρότημα στους μεγάλους της εποχής. Πλέον, όλα είναι δυνατά.

After Queen and Queen II, which are albums with a special place in the history of Progressive and Hard Rock, success began to take shape for these four distinctive musicians on their third album. Most, if not all, of the songs were written by the band's unique frontman and singer, Freddie Mercury (RIP), who at the time had long hair and did not wear the characteristic mustache we associate with him from the '80s (bottom left in the cover photo). The also-star – not only because of his studies in astrophysics but also because of his position right next to Freddie in the photo – guitarist Brian May fell ill just before entering the studio, and the lead vocals were taken over by their singer, who didn’t miss the opportunity. One of the most influential albums in the history of electric music, and certainly for musicians of the next decade who draw inspiration from it, both in water and alcohol. Ask James Hetfield and Dave Mustaine of Metallica and Megadeth, Testament, Hansi from Blind Guardian, and Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, and you'll see the special weight, especially of tracks like Brighton Rock, Stone Cold Crazy (which Metallica have also covered!), Tenement Funster, Now I’m Here, Flick of the Wrist, On the Lap of the Gods. Killer Queen sounds as if it was written during the cabaret era, but it remains their eponymous song. A body of work that now elevates the band among the greats of that era. Now, anything is possible.
