REVIEW: THE EXTINCT DREAMS - Shining of Beyond

THE EXTINCT DREAMS - Shining of Beyond

Stygian Crypt Productions

THE EXTINCT DREAMS presents a name that aptly reflects their dark and melancholic aesthetic, aligning well with their chosen genre of doom metal. Their sound is complex and nuanced within the broad spectrum of doom metal, which encompasses various sub-genres. Specifically, this Russian band delivers an ambient funeral doom metal style, infused with notable death metal elements that add intensity and extremity to their compositions.

The death metal influence is primarily evident in the vocals, characterized by guttural growls, and occasionally in the use of blast beats. Beyond these elements, the band focuses on evoking dark, somber emotions through atmospheric layers created by keyboards and melodies from acoustic guitar. This combination results in a sound that is both immersive and emotionally charged.

Lyrically, all songs are sung in Russian, the band’s native language. Due to language barriers, I can only speculate about the lyrical themes, which, based on the press release and cover artwork, appear to explore astral and cosmic themes. The overall aesthetic, including artwork, layout, and packaging, is well-crafted. The production quality is notably good, enhancing the overall listening experience.

For fans of ambient funeral doom and death metal seeking atmospheric and emotionally intense music, Shining of Beyond is a release worth exploring. However, listeners unfamiliar with or less inclined toward this style may wish to approach with caution.
