Faroe Islands-based blackened death/thrash metal trio
Svartsalt have officially released their debut album, Upp Úr Dýpinum. The album
was recorded at Nirvargh Home Studio and Killhelm Home Studio.
Formed in Tórshavn in 2016 for the Faroese Wacken
Metal Battle, Svartsalt have built their sound around a raw and uncompromising
approach, deliberately stripping away digital gimmicks in favor of a more
organic and confrontational form of extreme metal.
The band's music combines the aggression of death
metal with the darkness of classic black metal and the expansive structures of
post-metal, while incorporating groove-driven elements reminiscent of Gojira.
Lyrically and atmospherically, Svartsalt channel themes of social decay and
contemporary societal struggles into a harsh form of sonic resistance.
Following the release of their live EP in 2017, the
band entered a new chapter with their reunion show in 2024. The comeback also
marked a significant evolution in their lineup and sound, introducing a dynamic
two-vocal attack.
The current lineup features Nirvargh on lead vocals
and guitars, alongside original frontman Groth on bass and vocals, with
Killhellm behind the drums.
With Upp Úr Dýpinum, Svartsalt now present the
culmination of their musical evolution—a raw, aggressive and uncompromising
debut that reflects both their Faroese roots and their commitment to extreme
metal without unnecessary studio polish.
