Το πρώτο άλμπουμ του, το γεγονός ότι έχει μέσα την κομματάρα Runaway, είναι η αιτία που το έχω. Το ίδιο και το New Jersey και το Slippery When Wet, που έχουν ανάλογες επιτυχίες — ένα-δύο κλασικά κομμάτια τους λίγο πιο κάτω δισκογραφικά.

Ας είμαι σαφής: Δεν τον συμπαθώ, ούτε μου αρέσει όλη η δισκογραφία του από τα ’90s και πέρα. Ούτε ακούω ούτε άκουγα ποτέ φανατικά Glam ή Hair. Μπάντες όπως οι Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Ratt, Guns N’ Roses κι άλλοι πολλοί είναι, για μένα, η ντροπή της σκληρής μουσικής.

Εντάξει, παλιά, που ήμουν πιο σκληροπυρηνικός, έτσι το έβλεπα. Πλέον πίνω λιγότερη μπύρα!

Εξαιρούνται, στα αφτιά μου, οι FireHouse, Skid Row και KISS (στα ’80s ήταν ο ορισμός του Glam), μα και οι αδικημένοι Dokken, που όποιος τους αποκαλέσει αμιγώς Glam ή Hair Metal, τον καλώ να αλλάξει μουσική και να αρχίσει να ασχολείται με την Pop!

Έχει μέσα και Roulette, το δεύτερο μεγαλύτερο hit, She Don’t Know Me, γραμμένο από τον Mark Avsec (των Donnie Iris & The Cruisers), Shot Through the Heart, Breakout, Burning for Love, Get Ready, σε ένα συμπαθές Hard and Heavy, αλλά ήδη αρκετά αμερικάνικο, ραδιοφωνικό πανηγύρι.

The fact that it’s his debut album—and, more importantly, that it contains the killer Runaway—is the reason I own it. The same goes for New Jersey and Slippery When Wet, both of which contain similarly successful songs, with another one or two of their classics appearing further down the discography.

Let me be clear: I don’t like him, nor do I particularly care for his entire output from the ’90s onwards. I have never been a devoted Glam or Hair Metal listener, either. Bands such as Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Ratt, Guns N’ Roses, and many others are, in my book, the shame of hard music.

All right, back in the day, when I was more hardcore about these things, that’s how I saw it. These days, I drink less beer!

As far as my ears are concerned, the exceptions are FireHouse, Skid Row, and KISS (who were the very definition of Glam in the ’80s), along with the underrated Dokken. And if anyone dares call Dokken pure Glam or Hair Metal, I suggest they change their musical tastes and start listening to Pop instead!

It also features Roulette, the second-biggest hit, She Don’t Know Me, written by Mark Avsec (of Donnie Iris & The Cruisers), as well as Shot Through the Heart, Breakout, Burning for Love, and Get Ready—all part of a likeable slice of Hard and Heavy, although already leaning heavily toward the American, radio-friendly party atmosphere.
