Το περιεχόμενο αυτό κι αν είναι δαιμονικά άριστο, όσο cult κι αν είναι το artwork.

Σε μία εποχή που το Thrash Metal είχε ήδη αποκτήσει ταυτότητα, αυτοί οι πέντε Καναδοί, με έδρα το Βανκούβερ, στο ντεμπούτο τους αυτό το πήγαν ένα βήμα πιο πέρα. Πολύ πέρα, δηλαδή, από οτιδήποτε είχαν μέχρι τότε στο μυαλό τους οι Thrashers, αγγίζοντας τα άκρα στο ηχητικό αποτέλεσμα.

Εντάξει, από εξώφυλλο… δεν λέει πολλά, μη πω ότι βγάζει γέλιο η εικόνα του πράσινου βασιλιά-καλικάντζαρου! Τώρα, τότε ίσως να μην έβγαζε τόσο πολύ! Σκεφτείτε όλα τα splatter horror φιλμ των ’80s που, όταν ήμασταν μικρά παιδιά, μας τρομοκρατούσαν, πόσο γέλιο μας βγάζουν πλέον. Το ίδιο κι εδώ!

Overlord, Night of the Living Dead, S.O.S., None Shall Defy, Anthology of Death: το περιεχόμενο του δίσκου μέχρι σήμερα νοείται ως τυπικό δείγμα του Thrash ήχου, με επιρροές και ήχο γεμάτο Slayer, Overkill, Hallows Eve, Razor, Venom, με λίγο από Possessed και, φυσικά, τη δική τους ηχητική υπογραφή.

Ένα άλμπουμ-ορόσημο στο είδος του, όσο κλισέ κι αν ακούγεται η φράση.

The music itself is nothing short of devilishly brilliant, no matter how cult the artwork may be.

At a time when Thrash Metal had already established its identity, these five Canadians from Vancouver took things one step further with their debut. Much further, in fact, than anything Thrashers had imagined up to that point, pushing the sound to its extreme limits.

Okay, as for the cover… it doesn’t exactly say much. In fact, I might even say that the image of the green goblin king is downright laughable! Then again, perhaps it didn’t look quite so funny back then. Think of all those splatter horror films from the ’80s that terrified us when we were kids—how much they make us laugh today. The same goes for this one!

Overlord, Night of the Living Dead, S.O.S., None Shall Defy, Anthology of Death: the album’s material remains, to this day, a textbook example of the Thrash sound, packed with influences and a sonic character reminiscent of Slayer, Overkill, Hallows Eve, Razor and Venom, with a touch of Possessed and, of course, their own distinctive sonic signature.

A landmark album in its genre, as cliché as that phrase may sound.
