MOTORHEAD, Another Perfect Day (1983)

Το μοναδικό άλμπουμ τους στο οποίο την κιθάρα ανέλαβε ο Σκωτσέζος Brian Robertson, πρώην κιθαρίστας των Thin Lizzy. Ένα άλμπουμ που ίσως διαθέτει μια διαφορετική προσέγγιση λόγω αυτού του γεγονότος, αλλά παραμένει εξίσου κλασικό με το Iron Fist που προηγήθηκε —από το οποίο ομολογώ ότι το βρίσκω και καλύτερο— ή το Orgasmatron που κυκλοφόρησε τρία χρόνια και δύο κιθαρίστες μετά.

Η αποχώρηση του Eddie Clarke (R.I.P.) στοίχισε στο συγκρότημα, αλλά ο κοντοσπίθης Σκωτσέζος έκανε ό,τι ήταν εφικτό για να τον αναπληρώσει... καθώς και ό,τι άλλο χρειαζόταν για να τον μισήσει το κοινό των Motörhead —περισσότερο για την εμφάνισή του παρά για το παίξιμό του, φυσικά. Ήταν μια συνεργασία που δεν έμελλε να μακροημερεύσει, καθώς η «αλλεργία» των οπαδών προς τον Brian, αλλά και η δική του απέχθεια για το παλιό, κλασικό υλικό της μπάντας στις ζωντανές εμφανίσεις, σφράγισαν τη σύντομη λήξη της.

Ο Lemmy και ο Phil Taylor (και οι δύο στη «μεγάλη μπάντα του ουρανού» πλέον) παρέμειναν σταθερές αξίες. Τα «Back at the Funny Farm», «Dancing on Your Grave», «Shine», «Marching Off to War», «One Track Mind», «Another Perfect Day» και «Die You Bastards» είναι μερικά από τα πλέον κλασικά κομμάτια αυτού του τόσο διαφορετικού άλμπουμ, το οποίο συνοδευόταν από ένα εξίσου ασυνήθιστα πολύχρωμο εξώφυλλο (το πρώτο μετά την εποχή του Overkill) φιλοτεχνημένο από τον μόνιμο σχεδιαστή τους, Joe Petagno.

Στις οντισιόν που έγιναν στη συνέχεια για να βρεθεί ο νέος κιθαρίστας, τελικά επικράτησαν δύο. Τόσο καλός ήταν ο Robertson, που χρειάστηκε να αντικατασταθεί από δύο κυρίους: τους Würzel (R.I.P.) και Phil "Wizo" Campbell.

Their only album featuring Scottish guitarist Brian Robertson, formerly of Thin Lizzy. It's a record that might carry a somewhat different approach precisely because of his presence, yet it remains just as classic as its predecessor, Iron Fist—which, I must confess, I actually find it superior to—or Orgasmatron, which arrived three years and two guitarists later.

The departure of Eddie Clarke (R.I.P.) cost the band dearly, but the fiery short Scot did everything in his power to fill his shoes... as well as everything else it took to make Motörhead's audience hate him—more for his image than his playing, naturally. It was a partnership destined to be short-lived; the fans' allergy to Brian, coupled with his own distaste for performing the band's classic back catalog live, effectively sealed its fate.

Lemmy and Phil Taylor (both in the great band in the sky now) remained rock-solid constants. Tracks like "Back at the Funny Farm," "Dancing on Your Grave," "Shine," "Marching Off to War," "One Track Mind," "Another Perfect Day," and "Die You Bastards" are just a few of the all-time classics off this uniquely distinct record. Fittingly, it was wrapped in an uncharacteristically colorful cover (the most vibrant since the Overkill era), crafted by their go-to artist, Joe Petagno.

When auditions were held to find a replacement, two guitarists ultimately won out. Robertson was so formidable that it took two gentlemen to replace him: Würzel (R.I.P.) and Phil "Wizo" Campbell.
