Φρέσκο σαν να βγαίνει... αύριο!

Οι Άγγλοι, ομολογώ, με έχουν κερδίσει πλέον. Έχουν επανενωθεί όχι για να παίζουν ζωντανά τα κομμάτια της δεκαετίας του '80, αλλά για να δημιουργήσουν από την αρχή, και αυτό το κάνουν τίμια, περήφανα και με αξιοπρόσεκτο σθένος πάνω από δέκα χρόνια από τη στιγμή της επανένωσής τους. Εδώ, και αφού συμπλήρωσε περί τις πέντε ακροάσεις (έφυγε μόνο σήμερα από το CD player του στερεοφωνικού μου), έχουμε το ολόφρεσκο άλμπουμ τους, που κανονικά κυκλοφορεί αύριο, Παρασκευή, 13 Σεπτεμβρίου, αλλά υπάρχει ήδη από τη περασμένη Δευτέρα στα ράφια.

 

Οι κύριοι Brian Ross (φωνή), Russ Tippins και Steve Ramsey (κιθάρες), ο Graeme English (μπάσο) και ο ντράμερ Sean Taylor, σε δέκα νέα κομμάτια που πραγματικά είναι αυτό που περιμέναμε μετά το επίσης άξιο άλμπουμ Earth Infernal, που μας θύμισε πόσο μεγάλο συνθετικά είναι, αλλά τελικά και πάλι πόσο underground σχήμα είναι. Αν και δεν το έχω λιώσει εντελώς ακόμη, ξεχωρίζουν στο μυαλό μου τα κομμάτια: Frantic Zero, Era (The Day Will Come), Whore of Babylon, Sacramental Rites (το θεωρώ ήδη κλασικό, με το πολύ χαρακτηριστικό riff στις κιθάρες), Turn The Tide, Martyrdom, Curse in Disguise, Truth Bullet, αλλά και πάλι, τα κομμάτια που δεν ανέφερα δε στερούνται σε τίποτα· απλώς, τα συγκεκριμένα μου έκαναν ένα κλικ παραπάνω μέχρι στιγμής.

Fresh as if it’s coming out... tomorrow!

The English, I admit, have now won me over. They have reunited not to play live the tracks from the '80s, but to create something new from scratch, and they do so honestly, proudly, and with remarkable determination for over ten years since their reunion. 

And now, after about five listens (it only left my stereo’s CD player today), I have their brand-new album—originally scheduled to be released tomorrow, Friday, September 13, but it’s already on shelves since last Monday. 

The band members—Brian Ross (vocals), Russ Tippins and Steve Ramsey (guitars), Graeme English (bass), and Sean Taylor (drums)—deliver ten new tracks that truly are what we expected after their equally impressive album Earth Infernal, which reminded us of how great they are compositionally, but also how much of an underground band they remain. 

Although I haven’t fully digested it yet, my favorites so far are: Frantic Zero, Era (The Day Will Come), Whore of Babylon, Sacramental Rites (which I already consider a classic, with its very characteristic guitar riff), Turn The Tide, Martyrdom, Curse in Disguise, Truth Bullet. And again, the tracks I haven’t mentioned are just as good—these are simply the ones that made a slightly stronger impression on me so far. 

Ten out of ten? Yeah, I’m still a few listens away from confidently saying that.
