ANTICHRIST – Forbidden World

High Roller Records

In recent years, there has been a noticeable resurgence across various metal genres, with numerous bands emulating the classic sounds of the early 1980s. “Forbidden World” by ANTICHRIST exemplifies this trend, channeling the spirit of European thrash metal from that era.

Interestingly, despite being a contemporary release, the band’s sound is remarkably authentic, to the point that without the label’s information, one might assume they are a vintage act from the early '80s. The album presents a fusion of speed, thrash, and heavy metal elements, creating an energetic and dynamic listening experience.

Influences on the record are diverse yet cohesive, drawing from iconic bands such as Kreator, Destruction, Venom, and Hellhammer. Additionally, there are discernible nods to bands like Mercyful Fate and Iron Maiden, notably in the lengthy composition “Minotaur,” which spans over eight minutes and showcases melodic complexity and compositional confidence.

The musicianship on "Forbidden World" is noteworthy; the band members demonstrate technical proficiency and confidence, contributing compelling lead guitar work and solos that enrich the album’s variety and depth. This instrumental proficiency supports a balanced mix of aggressive riffs, intricate leads, and memorable melodies.

Overall, “Forbidden World” is a compelling release for listeners seeking a traditional thrash metal experience with a genuine old-school feel. It stands out as a well-executed homage, appealing to fans of classic European thrash and heavy metal, while also showcasing the capabilities of the current lineup.
