Ένα γερό πάτημα για το μέλλον.

Οι Sodom, με Tom Angelripper και Chris Witchhunter (RIP) στα μπάσα, φωνητικά και ντραμς, έχουν εδώ μαζί τους τον Michael Hoffman στις κιθάρες, και βρίσκονται μόνο στο τέταρτο πλήρες άλμπουμ τους, έχοντας κάνει τεράστια μουσικά άλματα.

 

Το Agent Orange προήλθε πάνω στη γραμμή του αμέσως προηγούμενου Persecution Mania, δηλαδή του (αντί)πολεμικού θεματικά thrash metal. Έτσι, και αυτό το άλμπουμ εξελίσσει ακόμη περισσότερο τον ήχο των Γερμανών.

 

Για τους πιστούς τους τότε, η αποχώρηση του Frank Blackfire για να πάει στους "άσπονδους" φίλους Kreator, ίσως να προκάλεσε λίγη γκρίνια. Παρόλα αυτά, ο Michael αποδίδει τα κιθαριστικά μέρη με τον ίδιο τρόπο, και ίσως και πιο τεχνικά, σε ένα ακόμη πιο δημοφιλές τελικά άλμπουμ. 

Προσωπικά, παραδέχομαι ότι δεν μπορώ να τον δω αξιοκρατικά, αφού με αυτόν έμαθα το συγκρότημα. Αθάνατα τραγούδια, όπως το "An Eye For An Eye", το "Shellfire Defence", το "Resurrection", το "The Shaw Is the Law", το "Capture the Flag", το "Tarred and Red", το "Stalinorgel", η διασκευή στο "Turn Your Head Around" των Tank, αλλά και το "Cold Sweat" των Thin Lizzy (ως bonus στη CD έκδοση), είναι τα καλύτερα. Πάνω από όλα, όμως, τα μισά από τα κομμάτια αποτελούν μέρος ενός άψογου μουσικού συνόλου.

Sodom, with Tom Angelripper and Chris Witchhunter (RIP) on bass, vocals, and drums, have here alongside them Michael Hoffman on guitars, and they are only on their fourth full-length album, having made huge musical strides. 

Agent Orange follows closely in the line of their previous album, Persecution Mania, which was thematically centered around anti-war thrash metal. As a result, this album further develops the German band's sound. 

For their fans at the time, the departure of Frank Blackfire to join their "frenemies" Kreator may have caused some grumbling. Nevertheless, Michael delivers the guitar work in the same style, and perhaps even more technically, resulting in an even more popular album overall. 

Personally, I admit I can't see him objectively, since I learned about the band through him. Timeless songs like "An Eye For An Eye," "Shellfire Defence," "Resurrection," "The Shaw Is the Law," "Capture the Flag," "Tarred and Red," "Stalinorgel," the cover of Tank's "Turn Your Head Around," and "Cold Sweat" by Thin Lizzy (as a bonus on the CD version) are among the best. But above all, half of the tracks are part of a flawless musical ensemble.
