Ο ελληνικός ήχος στην ακραία Metal —είτε Death είτε Black— έχει να μας θυμίσει πολλά μεγάλα σχήματα που κάποτε έγραψαν με χρυσά γράμματα το όνομά τους. Οι Αθηναίοι Horffied ήταν ένα Death Metal συγκρότημα που, με το συγκεκριμένο CD, προσέθεσε πολλές ατμοσφαιρικές πινελιές στον ήχο του και κατάφερε να ακουστεί έντονα ακόμη και εκτός Ελλάδας.

Όντας το δεύτερο άλμπουμ τους, έδειξε πως το σχήμα των τριών φίλων είχε πραγματικό μέλλον. Τελικά, μετά το επόμενο άλμπουμ τους το 2002, το συγκρότημα δυστυχώς αγνοείται. Θάνος, Σταύρος και Gore ήταν τα μέλη που ηχογράφησαν τον δίσκο.

Ένα χρόνο αργότερα, άνοιξαν τη σκηνή στο Rockwave Festival ’99, μαζί με τους Exhumation και Nightfall, για τους Immortal, Sodom, Mercyful Fate και Manowar, παίζοντας πέντε από τα εννέα κομμάτια του συγκεκριμένου δίσκου. Το κοινό αναγνώρισε το υλικό τους, γεγονός που δείχνει πως ο δίσκος είχε πάει αρκετά καλά από πλευράς πωλήσεων.

Έκτοτε, όπως είπαμε, ανήκουν στα σχήματα που απλώς χάθηκαν για τον έναν ή τον άλλο λόγο. Παρ’ όλα αυτά, το μελωδικό και σκοτεινό Death Metal τους περιείχε πολλά στοιχεία από κλασικό Heavy Metal, αναμεμειγμένα με Gothic αποχρώσεις, αλλά και λίγα ανατριχιαστικά Black πλήκτρα που ενίσχυαν την ατμόσφαιρα.

Τα Forbidden Knowledge, Ghost, Redemption, Under the Roots, το πανέμορφο —σχεδόν φλαμένκο— Evol Morena, καθώς και το Empty Moment, είναι μερικά από τα σημεία του δίσκου που ξεχωρίζουν μέχρι σήμερα.

From Another Era

The Greek sound in extreme Metal — whether Death or Black — has given us many great bands that once carved their names in gold. The Athenian outfit Horffied was a Death Metal band that, with this particular CD, added strong atmospheric touches to its sound and managed to make a noticeable impact even beyond Greece.

As their second album, it showed that this trio of friends truly had potential. Unfortunately, after their next release in 2002, the band seems to have disappeared. Thanos, Stavros, and Gore were the members who recorded the album.

A year later, they opened the stage at Rockwave Festival ’99, alongside Exhumation and Nightfall, supporting Immortal, Sodom, Mercyful Fate, and Manowar. They performed five of the album’s nine tracks, and the crowd clearly recognized their material — a sign that the record must have sold quite well at the time.

Since then, as mentioned, they belong to those bands that simply faded away for one reason or another. Still, their melodic and dark Death Metal carried strong elements of classic Heavy Metal, blended with Gothic shades and a few chilling Black Metal-style keyboard lines that deepened the atmosphere.

Forbidden Knowledge, Ghost, Redemption, Under the Roots, the beautiful — almost flamenco-like — Evol Morena, and Empty Moment are some of the album’s highlights that continue to stand out today.
