Euro Power 3-0. 

Η επιτομή του λυρικού, οπερατικών διαστάσεων και συμφωνικού Power Metal σε όλο το υπερβολικό του μεγαλείο. Αυτοί ήταν οι Ιταλοί Rhapsody κατά την εποχή των τριών πρώτων δίσκων τους. Το τρίτο άλμπουμ αυτό συνεχίζει το μύθο του σμαραγδένιου σπαθιού τους, ένα θεατρικών διαστάσεων saga, που η μεγαλοφυΐα (ή η παράνοια, κοντινές έννοιες και οι δύο) του κυρίου Alex Staropoli, συνθέτη και πληκτρά του συγκροτήματος, έγραψε σε συνέχειες. Ο ηγέτης του μικροφώνου Fabio Lione και ο κιθαρίστας Luca Turilli συνεργάζονται με τους Alessandro Lotta (μπάσο) και Alex Holzwarth (κρουστά), προσφέροντάς μας ίσως το τελευταίο, όχι πολύ βαρετό άλμπουμ τους για χρόνια! 

Την εποχή εκείνη, έχοντας το προηγούμενο άλμπουμ σε picture disk L.P. (το «Symphony of the Enchanted Lands»), απέκτησα και αυτό στο ίδιο φορμάτ. Δε μπορώ να πω ότι με απογοήτευσε, αλλά έβλεπα προς τα που θα κατευθυνόταν η κατάσταση, όπως και συνέβη λίγα χρόνια μετά. Η υπερβολή (σήμερα ο αντιδανεικός όρος "τυρί" περιγράφει αυτό ακριβώς) υπάρχει, αλλά ακόμη δεν φαίνεται στο βαθμό που θα τους οδηγήσει ως συγκρότημα μέχρι τα μέσα της τότε νέας δεκαετίας.

 

Το ομώνυμο «Dawn of Victory» παραμένει στο ζωντανό playlist ακόμη και σήμερα, υπό το όνομα Rhapsody of Fire. Τα κομμάτια «Dargor, Shadowlord of the Black Mountain», «Holy Thunderforce», «The Last Winged Unicorn» και «The Mighty Ride of the Firelord» είναι άξια λόγου και ακρόασης.

The epitome of lyrical, operatic-scale, and symphonic Power Metal in all its exaggerated grandeur. These were the Italian Rhapsody during the era of their first three albums. This third album continues the myth of their emerald sword, a theatrical saga crafted in episodes by the genius (or madness, both closely related concepts) of Mr. Alex Staropoli, the band's composer and keyboardist. Lead vocalist Fabio Lione and guitarist Luca Turilli collaborate with Alessandro Lotta on bass and Alex Holzwarth on drums, giving us perhaps their last, not-too-boring album for years! 

At that time, having the previous album on picture disc LP (the “Symphony of the Enchanted Lands”), I also acquired this one in the same format. I can't say it disappointed me, but I saw where things were heading, as it indeed happened a few years later. Excess (today the borrowed term "cheese" describes exactly this) exists, but it hadn't yet reached the level that would push them as a band into the middle of the then-new decade. 

The self-titled “Dawn of Victory” remains on my active playlist even today under the name Rhapsody of Fire. Tracks like “Dargor, Shadowlord of the Black Mountain”, “Holy Thunderforce”, “The Last Winged Unicorn”, and “The Mighty Ride of the Firelord” are worthy of note and listening.
