Το μόνο μέρος δεύτερο είναι όντως καλύτερο από το πρώτο! 

Κι η παραπάνω επικεφαλίδα έχει να κάνει με το ότι το πρώτο μέρος αποτελεί κομμάτι στο δεύτερο τους άλμπουμ «Images and Words» (1992) και όχι τίτλος δίσκου, προφανώς. Ίσως πρόκειται για το διαμάντι στο στέμμα των Αμερικανών progressive metal ειδώλων της δεκαετίας του '90, τον πιο δυνατό δίσκο που θα μπορούσαν να γράψουν μετά το άνευρο και νερουλό, κατά τη γνώμη μου, «Falling Into Infinity» του 1997, που κάποιοι το βρήκαν καλό (επαναλαμβάνω ότι αν χρειαστεί ΩΡΛ γιατρός για τα αφτιά, στείλτε μήνυμα, έχω έναν πολύ καλό!). 

Ένα θεματικό άλμπουμ, μία Rock Opera ή όπως κι αν το ονομάσουμε, το άλμπουμ αυτό μας έκανε να γυρίσουμε τα αφτιά πάλι σε αυτούς. 

Ένας James LaBrie που νομίζεις ότι όντως νιώθει τα λόγια που τραγουδάει, ένα συγκρότημα μεστό και δεμένο που ξέρει πού πάει και πάει πολύ καλά! Τα κιθαριστικά μέρη του John Petrucci είναι μια ηλεκτρική όαση, όπως και τα πλήκτρα του τεράστιου Jordan Rudes. 

Ο ρυθμικός τομέας είναι πάντα για σεμινάριο, αφού ο John Myung στο μπάσο και, βεβαίως, ο κανονιέρης Mike Portnoy στα ντραμς δεν υπάρχουν δεύτεροι. Αυτό το δισκάκι ήταν ανάσα και μεγάλη επιτυχία τότε, που την δικαιούνταν και την καρπώθηκαν με το παραπάνω. 

Στο Rockwave του 2000, όπου αντικατέστησαν επάξια τους Iron Maiden που ακύρωσαν λόγω ατυχήματος του Janick Gers, φάνηκε η μαεστρία του συγκροτήματος και ζωντανά. 

Μένουν χαραγμένα στη μνήμη μας τα κομμάτια «Overture 1928», «Strange Deja Vu», «Fatal Tragedy», «Beyond This Life», «Home», «The Dance of Eternity», «The Spirit Carries On» – όλα από αυτό το δίσκο.

The second part is truly better than the first! 

And the above headline refers to the fact that the first part is a track from their second album “Images and Words” (1992), not the title of a record, obviously. Perhaps it’s the diamond in the crown of American progressive metal icons of the '90s, the most powerful album they could have made after the dull and watery, in my opinion, “Falling Into Infinity” (1997), which some found to be good (I repeat, if you need an ENT specialist for your ears, send a message—I have a very good one!). 

A thematic album, a rock opera, or whatever you want to call it, this record made us listen to them again. 

James LaBrie sounds like he truly feels the words he’s singing, and the band is cohesive and focused, knowing exactly where they’re headed—and doing very well! John Petrucci’s guitar parts are a electric oasis, just like the keyboards of the amazing Jordan Rudes. 

The rhythm section is always a masterclass, with John Myung on bass and, of course, Mike Portnoy on drums—there’s no second to them. This album was a breath of fresh air and a major success at the time, deservedly so, and they seized that moment with full force. 

At Rockwave in 2000, when they replaced Iron Maiden, who canceled due to Janick Gers’ accident, their mastery was evident live. 

Memories are etched in our minds of tracks like “Overture 1928,” “Strange Deja Vu,” “Fatal Tragedy,” “Beyond This Life,” “Home,” “The Dance of Eternity,” and “The Spirit Carries On”—all from this record.
