NECROMANTIA/VARATHRON, Black Arts Lead Tο Everlasting Sins (1994)

Από τις σκοτεινές κατακόμβες. 

Ένα Split CD που περιέχει τα Ε.Ρ. δύο από τα πιο πρώιμα ελληνικά black metal σχήματα και τις πρώτες ηχογραφήσεις τους. Τα πρώτα πέντε κομμάτια είναι η ηχογράφηση των Necromantia, "Black Arts": τα φωνητικά του Magus Wampyr Daoloth μοιάζουν πιο... death, εδώ, κι ας επιτραπεί η έκφραση. Λογικά, η ηχογράφηση αυτή είναι αρχικά από το 1991-92. Το black metal, ως ιδίωμα, δεν έχει ακόμα αποκοπεί πλήρως από το death metal. Η αίσθηση είναι κλασικού heavy metal, κατά τα άλλα, γνωρίζοντας ότι τόσο ο μπασίστας και ερμηνευτής Magus όσο και ο επίσης μπασίστας και συνθέτης Baron Blood (RIP) ήταν λάτρεις των Manowar, κάτι που δίνει εξήγηση στον ήχο. 

Οι υπόλοιποι συντελεστές που αναφέρονται με ψευδώνυμα είναι: Inferno (ντραμς), The Worshiper of Pan (πνευστά), Slow Death (δεύτερα φωνητικά). Η doom αισθητική και το σκοτάδι των συνθέσεών τους συμπληρώνουν το πακέτο των κομματιών "Lord of the Abyss", "The Feast of Ghouls", "Evil Prayers", "Lycanthropia", "De Magia Veterum". 

Τα άλλα έξι κομμάτια είναι το Ε.Ρ. των Varathron, "Everlasting Sins": ένα ακόμη τυπικό δείγμα πρώιμης εποχής του ελληνικού black metal ήχου, γραμμένο στις αρχές της δεκαετίας του '90, σε πιο death metal φωνητικά, όπως των Necromantia. Ο ηγέτης του γκρουπ Necroabyssious, ακόμη και σήμερα, ακολουθεί το σκοτεινό δρόμο του, από το επερχόμενο τότε πλήρες άλμπουμ τους "His Majesty at the Swamp" μέχρι το περσινό "The Crimson Temple". 

Εδώ, μαζί με τον Jim Mutilator και τον Θέμη στο μπάσο και τα ντραμς (και οι δύο από τους Rotting Christ), και τον κιθαρίστα Stavros, στα κλασικά κομμάτια "The Cult of the Dragon - Intro", "The Tressrising of Nyarlahottep", "La Reine Noir", "Outro", "Descent of a Prophetic Vision", "Genesis of Apocryphal Desires", ολοκληρώνουν την ηχογράφηση εφιαλτικά.

From the dark catacombs. 

A Split CD featuring EPs from two of the earliest Greek black metal bands and their first recordings. The first five tracks are recordings by Necromantia, "Black Arts": Magus Wampyr Daoloth's vocals sound more... death metal, here—if I may use the phrase. Likely, this recording dates back to 1991-92. As an early example, black metal as a genre hadn't yet fully separated from death metal. The overall vibe resembles classic heavy metal, knowing that both Magus, the bassist and vocalist, and Baron Blood (RIP), also a bassist and composer, were fans of Manowar, which explains the sound. 

The other contributors, using pseudonyms, are: Inferno (drums), The Worshiper of Pan (winds), Slow Death (backing vocals). Their doom-influenced aesthetic and the darkness of their compositions complete the package, with tracks like "Lord of the Abyss," "The Feast of Ghouls," "Evil Prayers," "Lycanthropia," and "De Magia Veterum." 

The other six tracks are from the EP "Everlasting Sins" by Varathron: another typical example of early Greek black metal, recorded in the early '90s, with vocals leaning more toward death metal style, similar to Necromantia. Necroabyssious, the band’s leader, continues to follow this dark path even today, from their then-upcoming full-length album "His Majesty at the Swamp" to last year's "The Crimson Temple." 

Here, alongside Jim Mutilator and Thimi on bass and drums (both from Rotting Christ), and guitarist Stavros, the classic tracks "The Cult of the Dragon - Intro," "The Tressrising of Nyarlahottep," "La Reine Noir," "Outro," "Descent of a Prophetic Vision," and "Genesis of Apocryphal Desires" culminate in a nightmarish recording.
