DANTESCO - We Don't Fear Your God

Inframundo Records

I may not be an expert on doom metal—I'm more drawn to metal genres that are energetic and fast-paced. But when I stumble upon something that truly impresses me, I can't help but share it with you. That’s pretty much how we roll at the webzine these days—recommending music we love and think is worth your time.

DANTESCO kicked off their journey in 2003, but the band sadly came to an end in 2021 with the untimely death of their frontman, Eric "La Bestia" Morales. He passed away on March 6, 2021, from a heart attack at just 51 years old (such a tragedy). In the early days, they sang in Spanish, but later began writing in English, which is what you’ll hear on the album I’m about to dive into.

Their sound is rooted in epic doom metal, and I genuinely believe they’ve crafted one of their finest albums here. It stands out for its maturity and inspiration. On “We Don't Fear Your God,” they blend the heavy, mid-tempo vibes of doom metal with classic heavy metal influences. This combination really works for them, creating a record that pays homage to the greats like CANDLEMASS and, to a lesser extent, DIO-era BLACK SABBATH. It holds its own alongside releases from iconic bands like DOOMSWORD (seriously, where have they been hiding?). Above all, this album has a distinct personality, variety, and real inspiration.

Another standout feature is Eric "La Bestia" Morales's incredible voice and performance. He brings an operatic flair to his singing that enhances the album's dramatic atmosphere. His style may remind you a bit of the legendary Messiah Marcolin, with a touch of Chris Boltendahl.

In short, this is a fantastic and engaging album that I really believe will resonate with doom metal fans as well as those who cherish classic heavy and epic metal sounds. Give it a listen—you won’t be disappointed!
