Κομμάτι μιας αγαπημένης εποχής.

Για την ακρίβεια μαζί με το πρώτο τους άλμπουμ το Eternity δύο χρόνια πριν, είναι τα μόνα που στη φωνή ακούμε τον... "μαθητή" σχολής Midnight (RIP, των Crimson Glory) ονόματι Mark Vanderbilt.

Ο Roy Khan που εμφανίζεται στο τρίτο τους Siege Perilous και που θα ήταν πάνω από δέκα χρόνια μετά στο μικρόφωνο τους, βρίσκονταν ακόμα στους Conception. Εδώ οι πρώιμοι Kamelot είναι πιο metal από ποτέ! Ναι έχουν πλήκτρα, ναι έχουν οπερετικής λογικής κομμάτια σε αντίθεση με την συντριπτική πλειονότητα των άλλων αμερικανικών power metal συγκροτημάτων (όσο euro κι αν ακούγονταν, ειδικά μετά με τον Khan, μη ξεχνάμε ότι είναι απ' τη Ν.Υορκη έτσι;) ναι έχουν προοδευτική χροιά σαν Queensryche meets Crimson Glory, αλλά για μένα η εποχή αυτή ήταν πολύ πιο αυθεντική και πολύ λιγότερο...."gothic" όπως ακούγονταν απ' το 2004 και μετά! Heaven, Song Of Roland,  Birth Of A Hero,  We Are Not Separate, Crossing Two Rivers που έχει το cd αυτό δεν ξαναγράφτηκαν από κανένα άλλο lineup του συγκροτήματος.

An excerpt from a beloved era.

To be precise, alongside their debut album 'Eternity' released two years prior, these are the only records where we can hear Mark Vanderbilt, a 'student' of the Midnight school (RIP, of Crimson Glory), lending his voice. Roy Khan, who would later take the microphone for over a decade, was still part of Conception at that time. Here, the early Kamelot sounds more metal than ever before! Yes, they incorporate keyboards, yes, they feature operatic elements, setting them apart from the majority of other American power metal bands (even though they had a European sound, especially after Khan, it's worth noting they originated from New York, right?). Yes, they possess a progressive edge reminiscent of a blend between Queensryche and Crimson Glory. However, for me, this period felt much more authentic and far less... 'gothic' than their sound post-2004! Tracks like 'Heaven,' 'Song Of Roland,' 'Birth Of A Hero,' 'We Are Not Separate,' and 'Crossing Two Rivers,' featured on this album, remain untouched by any other lineup of the band.
