IMMORTAL
- War Against All
Nuclear Blast Records
Demonaz's vocals exhibit the same robustness as Abbath's, making their styles remarkably similar. However, on this album, the guitar riffs are noticeably tighter than in most of Immortal's previous releases. My personal favorites among Immortal's albums include 'At The Heart of Winter,' although it had somewhat weaker production quality. 'Blizzard Beasts' suffered from even poorer production, yet it featured great riffs, particularly in 'Mountains of Might.' This album marks another chapter in Immortal's journey, uninterrupted by previous disputes. I appreciate the direction they're taking here, with numerous epic riffs crafted by Demonaz. Despite its sub-40-minute duration, this album is a worthwhile experience.
While 'Northern Chaos Gods' was commendable, I believe
this album is even more potent, boasting tighter riffs and heightened
intensity. I've always been a fan of the band and it's reassuring to see them
active and not defunct. Abbath's solo project, with three releases so far, does
have some commendable songs, but he may benefit from reducing his alcohol
intake. The band had a slightly different dynamic when he was part of it, with
Demonaz being less technically proficient on the guitar, but still contributing
to several memorable releases. Now, Demonaz takes the spotlight, primarily for
his exceptional guitar work.
I hope this band enjoys a long-lasting journey
following this album. Their music is incredibly tight and original, with
Demonaz displaying his wizardry with riffs that are both creative and surreal,
leaving Abbath behind in terms of technicality.
As long as Demonaz remains the new frontman, I'm
hopeful he'll continue to produce outstanding music, as he did on this album.
His riffs resonated with me, and the session musicians complemented them
seamlessly with their vocals. Perhaps, he'll recruit permanent band members and
embark on a tour. Many of us would love to see Immortal thrive, even without
Abbath, and this album is a testament to that possibility. Demonaz's guitar
work is exceptional, and his vocals bear a resemblance to Abbath's with a
unique twist. I highly recommend this album to all Immortal fans; it's nothing
short of exceptional. Personally, I purchased the CD. Don't miss out on this
fantastic music!"
