1. Can you introduce the band members and tell us a
bit about your roles within the group?
Max: "Lenardo on the drums, Tiziano on the guitar and
Jacopo on the bass".
Tiziano: "The four of us met one year ago in summer 2022
and initially we should have been a two guitars band but in the end it’s only
me in this role. Through this first year of activity I took care of most of the
riffs".
2. Why a death metal band? What lead you to form a
band that plays this kind of music?
Max:
"Simple, death metal kicks ass as other
genres maybe don't! If you are pissed off or you life is simply shitful, well
it may help you! Personally, I've been involved into death metal since the
beginning even if my all time favorite band is fucking Slayer as they ruled
into thrash... and perhaps not only into that!".
Tiziano: "Personally speaking, it’s a kind of music I
always liked but I never had occasions to play it seriously, so I quickly
grabbed this opportunity".
3. Can you tell us about the origin and significance
of the name 'KAIVS'?
Tiziano: "It’s the name of a demon, quite suitable for a
genre like death metal"
4. What does it mean to the band, and how does it
connect to your music and identity?
Max: "It embraces many aspects and not only about the
lyrics! A short monicker remains impressed... maybe!".
5. Death metal often explores dark and intense themes.
Can you share some insights into the themes and concepts behind your music?
Max:
"Yes! Serial killers, horror, religion: that's
the stuff, you know! But in the end, anyone is attracted about what he is most
interested to. Death for instance, were more focused into that when they began
with 'Scream Blooy Gore' after then, they were more focused about existence and
inner suffering. You can start from a certain choice, and then move into
another, I dislike that but by anyone is free".
Tiziano: "Most of the lyrics themes are about horror,
war, gore and death. Each of these as original as possible".
6. What do you
think it is about dark and morbid themes that resonates with both your audience
and your band personally? Why do you believe these themes hold such fascination
and inspiration for you as artists?
Max: "Being a death metal means that you cannot have
different topics from those you just mentioned! Therefore, it's like reading a
Stephen King book, what should you expect? Perhaps, we've fear of being
categorized: death metal, thrash metal, horror, fiction: I think it's cool,
because even for myself and anyone, we look for certainties that categories
usually have: inducing people to follow a certain scheme and to ensure them
that they'll find what they are searching for in the way they're looking up for
it".
Tiziano: "Well, they are fascinating themes since the
dawn of time and so for us. Like all the dark shades of mankind".
Max: "I don't usually listen to 'Horrend' maybe as I
overtook the level 'my music above everything! We worked at our finest and the
results of all that we have is the good vibe that the people still recognizes
us, I mean after the concerts, reviews and so on! Also our label too! Perhaps
we worked on it with a certain rush, considering only one side of the things.
Maybe for the next releases we'll have more time for adjusting riffs and lyrics
as well, but it doesn't mean we didn't this time! »
Tiziano: "First time listening to the EP was surprising
for power and mixing quality, so I didn’t really expect such good results!
Musical influences were several and they molted in their finest way: picking up
simpleness and concreteness, keeping an eye on musicality itself. Moving
towards, something could stick in the mind’s listeners".
8. What factors influenced your choice to release an
EP instead of a full-length album, and did you take into account evolving
listener preferences, particularly among younger audiences, when making this
decision since they don’t have the patience to listen to a full length release?
Max:
"Nah! We made
the choice to record three songs only, call it a demo or an EP it doesn't make
difference to me! The focus was on the labels mainly, for a contract and to
perform live too. We don't follow any patterns, we had a bunch of songs and we recorded
the more suitable and maybe easy listening".
Tiziano: "It was a way to make us recognizable to the
world, to see what people thought about our work and so we had many
acknowledgements about that. We knew our potential, and it was appreciated. I
don’t care evolving towards listeners preferences and stuff like that, our
music have to be taken as it is, without compromise".
9) Do you have any upcoming plans for a new album
release? If so, can you share any details or insights on when your fans can
expect it?
Max: "We'll have some gigs, as for the new album that
is ready, yesterday we delivered the layout, more details soon, I cannot tell
anymore, sorry!»
Tiziano: "Yes, things are moving in the right way and
news will come soon".
10. Have you faced any challenges or controversies as
a death metal band, given the genre's reputation for extreme themes and
imagery? How do you respond to such criticism?
Max: "Oh well, I don't care about all these things, I
have no time for rumors, as I haven't any troubles with anyone! If you mean
about censorship... I don't know! Maybe like Spotify which automatically
preserves the listeners to some contents so, lyrics and illustrations go
censored is some cases! I am against that sort of limitations, that's simply
shit! You forbid visual art or words and maybe who do that is a thief himself!
»
11. What do you see as the future of death metal, and
how does your band fit into that vision?
Max: "Well, I don't know, I am not a soothsayer, but
I see still a tough longevity! Bands like Obituary or Dismember that always
release their records and go touring after more than thirty-five years, playing
with high standards, performing their classics as they have to be, it's a sort
of fuel for going on also for them as for the new bands!".
Tiziano: "I see a future full of engagements, especially
for what concerns live shows. At least I hope so! »
12. Are there any specific messages or emotions you
hope your music conveys to your audience?
Max: "Everything around sucks, man! »
13. Thanks for your time answering my questions.
Please put your epilogue to this interview….
Tiziano: "You’re welcome Nick, have a good one! »
Max: "Hope to meet you all in Greece! »
