SLAYER, Haunting The Chapel (1984)

Μικρή δόση αλλά ικανή.

Το Ε.Ρ. (extended play) την εποχή που το βινύλιο ήταν το μόνο μέσο (με τη κασέτα βέβαια) εγγραφής μιας ηχογράφησης, ήταν ο τρόπος να δώσεις κάποια επιπλέον μουσικά κομμάτια που σαν καλλιτέχνης έχεις ηχογραφήσει και που είτε δεν χώρεσαν στο πλήρες αλμπουμ σου σε L.P.  (long play) δίσκο βινυλίου δώδεκα ιντσών σε 33 και 1/3 στροφές,  είτε για υλικό που έγραψες μετά αλλά δεν είχε άλλα κομμάτια ώστε να γίνουν πλήρης δίσκος. Τα λέγανε και Maxi Single ή Mini -LP ανάλογα αν έπαιζαν σε 45 στροφές, αν το μέσο ήταν 12 ή 7 ιντσών σε διάμετρο κ.τ.λ.. Όλος αυτός ο πρόλογος για τρία, (συν ένα στο CD αυτό) κομμάτια που οι Slayer έβγαλαν μετά τον ογκόλιθο που ονομάζεται Show No Mercy δηλαδή το πρώτο τους άλμπουμ. Με απαραίτητους ύμνους σκοτεινού Thrash Metal σαν τα Chemical Warfare, Captor Of Sin, Haunting the Chapel και το Aggressive Perfector, που είναι μια ειδική έκδοση του κομματιού Aggressive Protector παρελκόμενο από τον πρώτο δίσκο, με μερικούς άλλους  στίχους κι άλλη ενορχήστρωση θα εμφανιστεί πάλι στο μεθεπόμενο άλμπουμ του του 1986 Reign In Blood σαν bonus. Ένα "σφηνάκι" χάους πρίν το "βαρέλι" που ονομάζεται Hell Awaits και που έπεσε στα κεφάλια μας περίπου ένα χρόνο μετά.

A Small Dose but Powerful.

The EP (extended play), at a time when vinyl was the only medium (along with cassette tapes) for recording music, was a way to provide listeners with additional tracks that you, as an artist, had recorded. These tracks either didn’t fit into your full-length LP (long play) album – a twelve-inch vinyl record spinning at 33 and 1/3 RPM – or were pieces you created later but didn’t have enough material to constitute a complete album. They were also referred to as Maxi Singles or Mini-LPs, depending on whether they played at 45 RPM and the diameter of the medium was 12 or 7 inches, etc.

All of this serves as a prelude to the three (plus one on this CD) tracks that Slayer released after the monumental album known as “Show No Mercy”, which was their first album. With essential anthems of dark Thrash Metal like "Chemical Warfare," "Captor of Sin," "Haunting the Chapel," and "Aggressive Perfector" – which is a special version of the track "Aggressive Protector" from their debut album, featuring different lyrics and orchestration – this EP includes tracks that will reappear as a bonus on their next album, “Reign In Blood”, in 1986. It’s a "shot" of chaos before the "barrel" known as *Hell Awaits* hit us about a year later.
