Λοιπόν οι τρίτη μορφή των μοβ με David Coverdale σε τραγούδι και Glenn Hughes σε μπάσο και σε δεύτερα φωνητικά σίγουρα δεν είναι τόσο βαριά όσο η 2η εποχή (Gillan/Glover αντίστοιχα). Ήδη αρχές του 1974 έχουν βγάλει το πρώτο τους έργο το πολύ καλό Burn. Τέλη του 1974 σκάει και αυτό εδώ. Εμμ, ναι άνισα άλμπουμ, σίγουρα το Burn το σκίζει αυτό. Και γιατί το ακούω βραδιάτικα; Καλό ερώτημα. Έχει ανάμεσα στα funk rock κομμάτια και καλές στιγμές σαν  τα Stormbringer (σαν το ομώνυμο του Burn πριν δυνατό ξεκίνημα το άλμπουμ), The Gypsy, Lady Double Dealer, High Ball Shooter που το σώζουν κάπως. Έχει και τη δακρύβρεχτη μπαλάντα Soldier Of Fortune στο τέλος και τρέχει το δάκρυ κορόμηλο. Τελικά ο κος με τα σου (κακό λογοπαίγνιο αλλά τεσ-πα) Ritchie Blackmore έθεσε εαυτόν εκτός του γκρουπ αρχές του 1975. Και μετά έσκασαν οι Rainbow. Happy Ending....

I sense some reservations already, don't I? Let's delve into the third iteration of Deep Purple featuring David Coverdale on vocals and Glenn Hughes on bass, accompanied by second vocals. It's fair to say that this phase isn't as sonically weighty as the second era (Gillan/Glover, respectively). Their journey kicked off impressively in early 1974 with the release of the excellent "Burn," followed by this gem towards the end of the same year.

Admittedly, it's an uneven album, and "Burn" indeed casts a formidable shadow over it. Now, why do I find myself gravitating towards it during the nocturnal hours? A valid inquiry. Amidst the funk rock tracks, there are noteworthy moments, such as the powerful kick-off akin to Burn's title track in songs like "Stormbringer." Other gems like "The Gypsy," "Lady Double Dealer," and "High Ball Shooter" contribute to salvaging its overall impact.

The album also boasts a tear-inducing ballad, "Soldier Of Fortune," towards the end, prompting a welling up of emotions. Ultimately, in early 1975, the enigmatic Ritchie Blackmore chose to distance himself from the group. And thus, the era of Rainbow was ushered in. A fitting conclusion to the chapter.
