1. How do you feel now that your new album entitled
“Deheadment for Betrayal” is released?
Fabio: “It’s our toughest work so far, and as for all
the albums we released, it’s always pleasant to have something new available on
the market!”
2. What kind of reactions have you received so far? Do
you feel that people understand what you wanted to do with this release?
Fabio: “The point is: are we satisfied? Not how people
react. We perform and write albums for ourselves first, if we have good
feedback we can surely be satisfied about that, but we are LECTERN for our own
basically! On the contrary, we don’t care about negative reviews or whatever!
During our last tour, the people liked our stuff, and talking with some fan at
the stand, they very much appreciated “Deheadment”!
3. If you compare the previous two releases with your
new one which is the common ground between them, what did you differently do
this time and how does it reflects on your album?
Fabio: “All we made and all that we are gonna do will
be death metal! This is the common element within our records! I must admit
that we could have done something differently the length of some parts of the
songs! We never touched that; as for “Deheadment”, maybe some riffs were
repeated too much, but in general they work together well”.
4. By the way when you create music do you have the
anxiety of creating something original and innovative or do you act more based
on your instinct and emotions?
Fabio: “No! We
don’t give a fuck about it! I told you, first LECTERN then all the rest!
Instinct is the first thing, without hatred there would be no fucking death
metal! If a song works, it’s because it works without a specific reason! We
don’t have to look about the meaning of this and that, and an album’s songs can
sound in a specific way. You can change it when you are involved in the
songwriting, maybe not. Also at the end of all the process, or after many
listenings after the release of an album, I can notice its value!”.
5. Let’s talk about the lyrics of the album. Which is
the story you narrate in each song?
Fabio: “There is no concept in it, lyrics are always a
retribution for the fucking Christians and an exaltation of the Satan I am!”.
6. The story for Lectern goes back to 1999. So can you
tell us what motivated you to form a band?
Fabio: “The fact that I want to make and listen also
to my music, and not always to others’ it’s the first and main reason! LECTERN
was different throughout the years passed, every song has a sound of its own,
and also lyrics”.
7. In all these years you exist as a band, which are
the moments that defined you? Were there moments you were thinking to quit
trying and if yes, what made you change your mind?
Fabio: “I never thought to give up! Never fucking
never! This is a beast in my hands, and I am the only one that can tame him! So
far, playing with INCANTATION is one of the best things I’ve ever done with
LECTERN! We made great records, and other things await us!”
8. What does the name Lectern mean and how did you
choose it?
Fabio: “It’s the most Satanic ever! Evil pulpit!”
9. Thanks for your time answering my questions. I wish
you all the best. The epilogue of this interview belongs to you.
Fabio: “Gotta be in Greece very fucking soon!”
