Well,
this is a band that I know well since I have already bought their debut album
entitled “Food for Thoughts” which was released back in 2006. So, after so many
years MAINPAIN have decided to strike back with their sophomore album which I
will present to you here. This big gap between the releases works either
beneficially or destructively for a band. Which is the case for MAINPAIN you
might ask? Well stay with me to find out…
THE COVER: The
cover art depicts a human face screaming in agony while some sharp and thin
things like wires penetrate it. It is a cover that in a way shocks you but also
fits to the title of the album since it has to do with the pain as emotion and
how we experience it as people.
MUSICAL STYLE: MAINPAIN
is a traditional sounding metal band that moves between the traditional 80’s
heavy metal sound and the late 80’s early 90’s thrash metal music. The band
also mixes in its sound influences that come both from the European and the U.S.
metal scene, but they give their own personal perspective to their influences.
COMPOSITIONS: You
will get here 10 compositions of traditional heavy/thrash metal that offer a
musical variety and also a variety of emotions to the listener. The band has
its own musical identity, but I can’t avoid some comparisons with such bands
like IRON MAIDEN, BRUCE DICKINSON, ICEAD EARTH, SANCTUARY (2 first albums) and
LIEGE LORD. If the above seem appealing to you then trust me they sound even
better. Finally, I have to say that the band has a gift to create compositions
that have a long duration and yet keep the interest of the listener alive.
CONCLUSION: It
seems that the 8 year gap between the debut album and their new release has
worked beneficially for the band. They have the enthusiasm and yet the
experience and maturity that shines on this release and will make you listen to
it again and again; A very good album indeed.
