SWIRL – Swirl review

 SWIRL – Swirl
Independent
The story of SWIRL, from the little information I have found by reading their biography, is a story of a band of musicians that were and still are determined to make their dream real (and actually they have succeeded) which is no other than to make music. They want to pass their determination and the spirit of the fighter, that describes them, through their music as they pretty much state in their biography. “Swirl” is their new work and when a band gives the band name as the title of the album that means two things: 1) that the band considers this one as their best work so far and 2) that this might be a new beginning for them.
THE COVER: The cover is simple and I have to say minimalistic, but sometimes or might I say most of the times less is more. You can see a black spiral on the background that covers the whole cover of the album and in front is the word “SWIRL”. You can’t get any meaning straighter to the point than that.
MUSICAL STYLE: I am not much into the music of these guys, so if somehow I do them wrong then they and you have to excuse me since it wasn’t done on purpose, but only by ignorance. In my ears SWIRL sound like a band that balances between the U.S. rock and hard rock sound. There are moments that their sound is sleazy and also flirts with the 80’s hair metal and other moments that becomes more melodic and moves on rock paths. The sure thing is that they have a sound full of variety.
COMPOSITIONS: You will find here 7 compositions that move somewhere between the rock, hard rock and hair metal sound as I mentioned above. There are songs that despite the fact that they have their roots in the 70’s and 80’s, sound modern and fresh. Also one more positive thing is that their music is optimistic and passes that to the listener.
CONCLUSION: SWIRL are definitely a band of musicians that know their sound very well, also they are good with their instruments and above all they are talented and creative. They know how to create music that is catchy and yet have quality and of course they manage to give to the old rock/hard rock sound a contemporary touch. I think people who like this kind of sound will find here something to listen to for a long time.
