It is obvious that the
80’s metal sound is back for good and not only because of the new young bands
that play this kind of music, but also because old bands have reactivated or
still release new albums. The DYGITALS from France are a band whose story
starts back in 1984 and after many demo releases have managed to release their
debut album back in 2003. “Dynamite” is their fourth album and although we have
entered the new millennium for good, DYGITALS insist to play their 80’s
oriented metal sound. So, the question that rises is how good or original do
they sound in their new release?
THE COVER: On the cover of the album you can see a man in panic that
tries to bite and cut out the fuses of 2 dynamites. It is a cover straight to
the point and actually depicts the title of the album in a very dynamic way.
MUSICAL STYLE: I have made it clear above that DYGITALS are an 80’s
sounding metal band and this is natural since they come from that era. The
question for many bands from that era is if they still have the skills to
compose that kind of music and if they have the same enthusiasm. I think
DYGITALS have that enthusiasm and good ideas. Actually they have managed to
create an album of melodic heavy metal with some hard rock touches that has the
sound and the certain nostalgia for the 80’s but also they sound fresh and
vivid. They don’t sound like a band that tries to reproduce something old, but
as a band that has ideas and passion and gives its own interpretation to 80’s
metal.
COMPOSITIONS: The album includes 10 compositions that move on path
of melodic heavy metal and there are also some hard rock touches. The
characteristic parts of their sound are the catchy melodies, the sing along
choruses and of course the good guitar work. Everything that we like in the
80’s sound exists here. As for the question if they have reminded me of something
in specific... This is a question hard to answer, because the band seems to have
its own musical personality that I can only compare with groups like IRON
MAIDEN, PRETTY MAIDS and ACCEPT.
CONCLUSION: So all of you that state to love 80’s metal and the
French metal scene, you will find here a very good representative of the sound
who proves that aging is only a state of mind, since these guys sound fresh and
full of enthusiasm despite the passing of 30 years since they have started
their career.
