AS DARKNESS DIES - As Darkness Dies

From
the ashes of the old something new will rise. These lines came up to my mind
when I read the short bio of the band. AS DARKNESS DIES is the continuation of
the band GRAVEN IMAGE (not the known 80’s U.S. metal band). Under that name
they have already released an album with the title “The Future Started
Yesterday”. Back then the band was playing thrash/power metal, but for reasons
known only to them they thought to make a new start and their new start comes
with the name AS DARKNESS DIES and I am here to present to you their debut
album with the same title.
THE COVER: It is a depiction of an epic scene. You can see an army of knights which I think are Crusaders (some of them seem to wear a cross on their chest) marching on to battle. On the top of the hill you can also see a warrior on a horse with wings on his back and a light coming from heaven shining upon him. The colors that rule on the painting are black and white and somehow give to it a dark and epic feeling.

MUSICAL STYLE: Their
label describes them as U.S. metal and I think this is exactly the band’s
sound. AS DARKNESS DIES sounds like a band coming straight from the 80’s and
they are of course influenced by IRON MAIDEN and JUDAS PRIEST as most of the
bands back then. I also think that when they use some thrash oriental sounding
riffs their main influence comes straight from SLAYER. If all these look a bit
mixed, let me assure you that the band‘s sound is full of variety and this is
why I found out so many different influences in their sound. The fact though is
that AS DARKNESS DIES don’t simply copy, but use their influences as an
inspiration upon which they create their own compositions.
CONCLUSION: If
you search for good old sounding U.S. power metal with a modern production and
fresh ideas, then AS DARKNESS SIES will offer you a lot of quality listening
hours. I think that fans of bands like OMEN, JAG PANZER and SAVATAGE will
appreciate them a lot.
