Break The Cycle is a metalcore band originating from Corfu, Greece, now based in Thessaloniki. Established in 2019 by two guitarists, the band quickly expanded to include a vocalist and drummer, forming a four-piece lineup. The newly released album from these cult U.S. metallers who faithfully and consistently play in the small category of Speed/Power Metal championship. No originality, no surprises, and no doubts. Attacker, in their present form, continue to be among the strong cards for those who prefer the nervous, high-pitched vocalist speeding metal from the opposite shore to skate on the fine line between Power and Thrash, without belonging anywhere else but to the Speed Metal subgenre. With only eight tracks, as was customary in the decade when everything started, this one in the '80s, and with titles like Knights of Terror, Curse of Creation, Stigmatized, River of Souls, Kingdom of Iron, World in Flames, The Mighty Have Fallen, and finally the eponymous album (another practice from the 80s), you find yourself exactly where you should be: A journey through time through the music of this classic group. Hurry up... I'm going for the fourth listen, and more are to follow.

ABYA release debut EP

 

Abya, an American Symphonic/Progressive Metal band, recently unveiled their debut EP titled "Prayer of Chaos." Recorded at "Abya Studio" in Tennessee and expertly mixed/mastered by Manuel Alvarez, the release marks a significant milestone for the band. Originating in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2019, Abya initially comprised Manuel Alvarez (vocals/guitars), Lisa Mote (keys and vocals), and Wayne Zerr (bass). Despite several member changes, the group solidified its lineup with Manuel, Lisa, Wayne, and the latest addition, Jon Rizzo on drums. Following the departure of Wayne and Lisa, the band decided to make a fresh start and relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, aiming to embark on a new musical journey.

Το ολοκαίνουργιο δημιούργημα του συγκροτήματος λοιπόν είναι εδώ γεμάτο ιστορίες πάθους, σκότους, μαγείας, θάνατου, απώλειας μέσα από γλυκόπικρες αλλά όμορφες και αρκετά ρετρό μελωδίες, αφού η μπάντα δε κρύβει τις εξεζητημένες 70s επιρροές της και αυτό δε μας χαλάει. Στα ντραμς ο σύζυγος της τραγουδίστριας Nicke Andersson, (παράλληλα κιθαρίστας των Hellcopters και φυσικά ντράμερ της κλασικής πρώτης εποχής των Death Metal ηρώων Entombed), οι Martin Nordin & Linus Björklund στις δύο κιθάρες και στο μπάσο ο Harald Göthblad συμπληρώνουν τη βασική πεντάδα των Lucifer στον δίσκο. Johanna Sadonis embellishes the band with her voice on their fifth album of the last decade. This cover, too, makes sense since at around fifty, she remains a beautiful presence as well as a dark, bluesy voice, and of course, a frontwoman. The fifth album of Doom, Stoner, Heavy, or whatever aggressive descriptor you want before the word Metal, is once again in our stereo. The brand-new creation of the band is here, full of stories of passion, darkness, magic, death, loss through bittersweet yet beautiful and quite retro melodies, as the band does not hide its elaborate 70s influences, which we don't mind. On drums, the singer's husband Nicke Andersson (also guitarist of The Hellacopters and of course drummer of the classic first era Death Metal heroes Entombed), Martin Nordin & Linus Björklund on the two guitars, and Harald Göthblad on bass complete Lucifer's basic quintet on the record. The concert opened with a captivating performance by Hliana Tsakiraki, the frontwoman of the band ENEMY OF REALITY. Accompanied by Yiannis Thermos from THE SILENT WEDDING on keyboards, they mesmerized the audience for about 45 minutes with their unique interpretations of beloved classics. From Anathema's "Parisienne Moonlight" to Massive Attack's "Teardrop" and Johnny Cash's "Wayfaring Stranger," each cover was imbued with Hliana's distinctive style and expression. They continued with The Gathering's "Saturnine," a rendition of Manos Hatzidakis' "Ο Ταχυδρόμος Πέθανε," and traditional Pontic songs like "Ξενιτεμένα μου Πουλιά" and "Πατρίδα," before closing with Florence & The Machine's "Jenny Of Oldstones," Rammstein's "Mein Herz Brennt," and Paradise Lost's "Forever Failure." Architects' "Animals," Joan Baez's "Diamonds And Rust," and Judas Priest's "A Touch of Evil" further showcased their versatility, ending with System of A Down's "Toxicity" to leave the crowd in awe.

Following their set, MAIDEN UNITED took the stage, presenting an acoustic project dedicated to reimagining the works of IRON MAIDEN. Joey Bruers, the project's sole constant member, led the ensemble, joined by Greek talents including Mario Karanastasis on vocals, Renos Lialioutis on drums, Yiannis Thermos on piano, and Dimitris Katsaros of THE SILENT WEDDING on guitar. The night's special guest, Dennis Stratton, added an extra spark to the performance.

Their setlist was a journey through the iconic repertoire of IRON MAIDEN, starting with the anthemic "Iron Maiden" as an intro, followed by "Strange World," "Charlotte The Harlot," and "Remember Tomorrow." The energy surged with classics like "Prowler," "Transylvania," and "Sanctuary," before a captivating rendition of "Phantom Of The Opera" that seamlessly transitioned into Nightwish's version of the song. The crowd erupted with enthusiasm as they continued with "Running Free" and returned for an encore featuring "Die With Your Boots On," "The Trooper," "Alexander The Great," "Children Of The Damned," and "Wasted Years," leaving everyone with memories to cherish.

Οι Νορβηγοί σε αυτόν, τον τρίτο δίσκο τους πλέον δεν έχουν τίποτα να αποδείξουν παραπάνω απ' την ουσία της μουσικής τους. Black Metal, ναι αλλά με τόσο ιδιαίτερο στυλ, πολλά πλήκτρα που δίνουν βάθος κι αέρα, συμφωνικό τρόπο σύνθεσης και ερμηνευτική δεινότητα απ' το λαρύγγι του Shagrath, τότε εδώ έχουμε τον πρώτο σταθμό στη δισκογραφία τους,  το άλμπουμ που τους κάνει ευρύτατα γνωστούς και πλέον αποδεκτούς σε ολόκληρη τη Metal κοινότητα, όχι μόνο στους οπαδούς των πιο ακραίων υποειδών. Polish Black Metal outfit Dargor recently unveiled their rendition of Summoning's track "Land Of The Dead." The release showcases the band's talent and dedication, with mixing and mastering handled by Adrian Jarosz, promotional artwork by Michał 'Xaay' Loranc, and a visually captivating video crafted by Michał Kustra. Dargor, originating as a solo project by Michal Kustra in 2017, draws inspiration from revered acts like Samael, Ajattara, and Dimmu Borgir. Their journey evolved with the addition of Damian Muszyński on bass/vocals, Michał Socha on rhythm guitar, and Maciej Socha on drums in 2020, completing their lineup. The band marked their presence with the release of the single "Hellfire" in 2018, followed by their debut EP "Descent Into Chaos" in 2021 and their inaugural album "Ascend to Infinity" in 2022.

Το να χωριστεί το υλικό σε "νεότερο και "παλιό" μάλλον ήταν ιδέα του management ή της δισκογραφικής για ευνόητους οικονομικούς λόγους! Δύο ζωντανοί δίσκοι την ίδια χρονιά (βάλτε και το περιορισμένης κυκλοφορίας τότε Live At Donington, τρεις)  είναι πολλοί, τουλάχιστον το 1998 ενοποιήθηκαν σε ένα διπλό CD με τίτλο A Real Live Dead One. Βγήκε και το Live At Donington κι αυτό σαν κανονικό διπλό άλμπουμ και τα λεφτά μας ξανα-εξανεμίστηκαν.

Part B of A Real Live One was recorded half a year earlier and comprises material from 1980 to 1984, which one can hardly deem dead, in contrast to Dickinson's voice, which begins to exhibit clear signs of... weariness in certain tracks. The Fear of the Dark tour endured quite long, and this live recording stems from various European cities. The decision to categorize the material into "newer" and "older" was likely conceived by the management or the record label for obvious financial reasons! Releasing two live albums in the same year (not to mention the limited release Live At Donington, making it three) seems excessive; at least by 1998, they were amalgamated into a double CD titled A Real Live Dead One. Live At Donington was also issued as a standard double album, further dissipating our funds.
