Τον George R.R. Martin φυσικά τον γνώρισα μέσω της γνωστής τηλεοπτικής σειράς GAMES OF THRONES κι ενός κόμικ που κυκλοφορούσε σε συνέχειες από Ελληνικό έντυπο που είχε ως θεματολογιά την φαντασία κι επιστημονική φαντασία. Η πρώτη μου όμως επαφή με τον γραπτό λόγο του συγγραφέα είναι το παρόν βιβλίο που ουσιαστικά είναι μια συλλογή διηγημάτων που κινούνται όλα στο χώρο της επιστημονικής φαντασίας.

Αυτό που μου άρεσε στα διηγήματά του είναι ότι αποπνέουν μια ατμόσφαιρα που συναντάς στους συγγραφείς της χρυσής εποχής του είδους. Επίσης τα διηγήματα του συνδυάζουν με τρόπο ισορροπημένο δράση, μυστήριο, ενίοτε χιούμορ και μια έντονη φιλοσοφική διάθεση.

Από όλες τις ιστορίες που είναι καλές αυτή που προσωπικά ξεχώρισα είναι η δεύτερη που δίνει μια πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα οπτική στις ιστορίες σχετικά με τα ζόμπι και φυσικά η τρίτη που διακρίνεται για το μαύρο χιούμορ της και την κριτική της στον πόλεμο.

Γενικά μέσα από το βιβλίο αυτό κατάλαβα ότι ο George R.R. Martin είναι μεγάλο κεφάλαιο για την λογοτεχνία της επιστημονικής φαντασίας και της φαντασίας κι ότι έχει ιδέες που δίνουν μια νέα και φρέσκια οπτική στα κλισέ του είδους.

Υγ. Το πρώτο διήγημα που έχει δώσει και τον τίτλο στο βιβλίο έχει μεταφερθεί σε ταινία μικρού προϋπολογισμού παλιά που είναι όμως αρκετά πιστή στο διήγημα και πρόσφατα σε σειρά που πέραν του τίτλου ελάχιστα κοινά έχει με την νουβέλα του συγγραφέα και μάλιστα μου φάνηκε τόσο μέτρια και κουραστική που ποτέ δεν την ολοκλήρωσα.

American Brutal Death Metal band VULNIFICUS released their new EP «Invocation». The release was recorded in Demolition Studios, and mixed/mastered at BWNTWN STN by E. Browne.

VULNIFICUS was formed in 2021 by W. Sherels - All Instruments (Urotherapy, Epidermolysis) and E.Browne - Vocals (Abolishing the Ignominious). The band released their debut demo "INNOMINATION" in November 26, 2021.

SERVAN released debut album

 

Italian Folk Metal band SERVAN released their debut album «Tales of the Forest». The album was recorded and mixed  by Riccardo Coraiola in "Artifact Studio", and mastered by Manuele Pesaresi in "Dyne Engine Studios". It features collaborations with artists such as HeadMatt (from Elvenking) for guitar solos and Catia Borgogno (from Alight) for some folk instruments and female vocals.

SERVAN was formed in 2017 at Trento, Italy by Enrico Lunelli (Vocals), Francesco Pinter (Guitar), Mattia Faccioli (Bass), Onur Ucak (Guitar) and Andrea Sadler (Drums). The band's music merges north-Italian and European folklore with a modern melodic death metal sound, with the addition of full symphonic arrangements and medieval instruments. They're deeply influenced by bands like Finntroll, Eluveitie, Equilibrium, but also Avatar, Children of Bodom, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Kataklysm and Ex Deo.

Το εξώφυλλο με το μαύρο φόντο και την ζωγραφισμένη με μοβ χρώμα γοργόνα (τμήμα αυτής) της παρούσας κυκλοφορίας μου έφερε κατά νου τις δουλειές των BLACK SABBATH. Ένας συνειρμός που δεν απέχει και πάρα πολύ από το τι προσφέρουν ηχητικά με τη δουλειά τους αυτή οι Ιταλοί PONTE DEL DIAVOLO ειδικά αν σκεφτούμε ότι οι BLACK SABBATH θεωρούνται και είναι οι πατέρες του doom metal ήχου.

Probably the strongest Municipal Waste release that I've heard!  It clocks in in under 30 minutes but the music/vocals captivates!  I like the guitar the most and well the vocals were anything but annoying.  This is a definitely good crossover/thrash band that's put together a great career!  I think they did the metal community justice after all these years.  Their albums may be short, but they hell of pack a punch, that's for sure.  I'm not big on the lyrical concepts, I support their music only.  Not what they write about.  This one again the songs are short but catchy as all hell!  I liked every song on here!

Αυτό κι αν ήταν από τα αναπάντεχα. Οι ROTTING FLESH μετά από 8 χρόνια δημιουργικής σιωπής είναι ξανά εδώ με τη νέα τους δισκογραφική δουλειά που φέρει τον τίτλο «Ancient Hymns». Επίσης η νέα τους δουλειά τους βρίσκει να συνεργάζονται εκ νέου με την Sleaszy Rider Records, εταιρία μέσω της οποίας είχαν κυκλοφορήσει και το ντεμπούτο τους το 2003 με τίτλο «Dreaming... The Underworld».

Definitely a better release than their newer material in my opinion.  The vocalist (RIP) sets the tone for this one.  And the guitars are simply astounding!  The production was a little raw, but I think that that's what they wanted.  I liked all the songs on here and I think that they have a lot to offer the metal world.  I like this crossover/thrash genres blended.  Seems to work well for them.  The vocals are going good with the music!  And the lead guitars were sick. I love the riffs on here! Definitely a boon to the release. Everyone is contributing something positive to this release!  An immensely awesome album!

Από άποψη παραγωγικότητας και κυκλοφορίας δίσκων ο κλασσικός heavy και power metal ήχος ποτέ δεν ήταν καλύτερα. Σχεδόν σε καθημερινή βάση βομβαρδιζόμαστε από πολλές κυκλοφορίες που κινούνται σε αυτό μουσικό ύφος σε βαθμό που είναι αδύνατον να τις ακούσουμε όλες. Κι αυτό είναι κρίμα διότι πιθανόν να χάνουμε και κάποιες πολύ αξιόλογες δουλειές. Το κοινό χαρακτηριστικό, βέβαια, της συντριπτικής πλειοψηφίας των ως άνω κυκλοφοριών είναι η εμμονή τους με τη δεκαετία του 80. Μάλιστα, καθ’ υπερβολή, θα πω ότι κάποιες ακούγονται πιο 80’ς κι από τα 80’ς.

The only thing that lacked on here, was a good production sound.  There seemed to be somewhat of an echo to the vibe, but the music is top notch!  I like the fact that they're a 5-piece.  These types seem to be the best there is!  I love the riffs on this one too!  They're fast and furious, definitely an album worth checking out.  The music is quality.  And the vocals go well with the music, too!  They did a good job with the lead guitars as well.  But the rhythms I key in more than anything else!  Totally original riffs and songs filled with ultimate vigor!  Their energy on here was phenomenal!

Η αλήθεια είναι ότι πριν έρθω σε επαφή και γνωρίσω για τα καλά την heavy metal μουσική, ότι άκουγα πολύ rock είτε ελληνόφωνο είτε ξενόφωνο. Ναι ανήκω στη γενιά εκείνη που άκουγε ΤΡΥΠΕΣ, ΞΥΛΙΝΑ ΣΠΑΘΙΑ, αλλά και QUEEN και BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN. Και να σας πω την αμαρτία μου ακόμη μου αρέσουν αυτά τα ακούσματα αν και βαμμένος μεταλάς ως το κόκαλο. Κι οφείλω να παραδεχτώ επίσης ότι όλα αυτά τα ακούσματα σε μεγάλο βαθμό διαμόρφωσαν κι επηρέασαν τις μουσικές επιλογές μου.

What a BRUTAL release, probably one of the best Hate Eternal releases I've heard though I like their latest it's pretty good too.  But I think the music is better on here.  I disagree with critics saying it's "typical Hate Eternal."  That to me is undermining this excellent release.  The songs are tight and intense!  I was hoping for a good release since I'm not a big fan of their latest Infernus.  This one has a lot more balls and grit that's what I'm hearing listening to this album.  Eric did a good job at riff-writing for this one!  Not a lot of lead guitar work just riffs that baffle the listener!  Total kick ass songs!

Η metal σκηνή των Η.Π.Α. είναι τεράστια και το μόνο σίγουρο είναι ότι υπάρχουν πολλά συγκροτήματα στην δεκαετία του 80 όπου κυκλοφόρησαν αξιόλογα demo τα οποία για διάφορους λόγους δεν κατάφεραν να κάνουν το επόμενο βήμα στην καριέρα τους. Ευτυχώς, όμως, που στην εποχή μας υπάρχουν ακόμη εταιρίες που αναδεικνύουν τέτοιους χαμένους θησαυρούς όπως στην περίπτωση των RUTHLESS HORDE όπου η Stormspell Records αποφάσισε να κυκλοφορήσει σε ένα CD τα demo τους που δημιούργησαν το 1989 και 1991.

A more experimental Napalm though I still like it.  It's kind of the same way I like Chaos AD by Sepultura though they're in a whole different genre.  But the same idea.  I think that they had a lot of good ideas in the songwriting but they totally abandoned their grind roots on here.  Surprised that Jesse (RIP) did go through and play on this alongside Mitch.  I supposed "slowed down" doesn't even come close to this one.  I like it, but it's way not Napalm.  If they wanted to abolish their metal roots (as I say), then they've done that here.  It's kind of like Napalm meets Lamb of God or Killswitch Engage.  I'm surprised that I like this!

Να μην λέμε συνέχεια τα ίδια και τα ίδια και καταντάμε κουραστικοί. Ναι, η Ελληνική metal σκηνή πλέον βρίσκεται σε πολύ καλό δρόμο και χρόνο με το χρόνο κερδίζει όλο και μεγαλύτερη αναγνωρισιμότητα στην παγκόσμια κοινότητα των metal οπαδών. Russian Modern Industrial Metal band ECHELON released their new single «Train of Time» (rus - Поезд времени). The single was recorded together with Anna Vorakso who is the singer of Russian Alternative Metal band The FLUTTER. Mixed/mastered by Robert Bulatov in MADEVIL RECORDS.

ECHELON was formed in 2018 at Saint Petersburg, Russia after the previous band of the members "LAUFDERZEIT" come to his end. The band describes itself as modern metal with a romantic soul, understandable to a wide audience. The basis of creativity are songs about ordinary people in different moments of life.

German Progressive/Technical Death Metal band WHEN THEIA CREATED THE MOON released their new video «Killing on Adrenochrome»". The single was recorded, mixed and mastered by Sascha Bühl. Video by Nicolai Kary.

WHEN THEIA CREATED THE MOON was formed in 2020 in Berlin, Germany by Christian Weißgerber (vocal/guitar), Marius Tausch (vocals/saxophone), Thomas Lade (bass) and Sascha Bühl (drums). The band describes their music as a bone-breaking, headbanging, emotive death metal that oscillates between melodic and moshy parts, sprinkled with some technical sparks on top of it – the right mixture of groove and crazy to bang-dance out of the pandemic. The band released their debut EP "Would It Kill Us Not to Kill Us?" in February 2022.
