Well, it is not accurate to say that all metal scenes were great in the 80’s. Maybe this might be the rule, but there are always exceptions. For example the Greek metal scene had some very good metal bands in the 80’s who were heroes since they managed to do so many with so little in their hands. The fact though is that most of the 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s Greek metal bands sounded amateurish and had this attitude that if they released a demo they would become the next big deal in the scene. It seems though that the scene of my country has made huge steps of progress and now we have the chance to listen to more bands that work on a professional level and are down to earth. I think such an example are DEFISION from the city of Alexandroupoli.

There is no reason to rush things or work under pressure… I think this can be the philosophy of this band. The foundations of the band IVORY were set between 98/99 and in 2005 they recorded their first promo CD under the title “Atlantis Fall” inspired by mythology (which in a way reminds me of the Greek band NORTHWIND). In 2008 the band released its debut album entitled “Time of Revenge” and now 8 years later with a new singer (Roby Bruccoleri (ex PROJECTO)) and drummer Claudio Rostagno they strike back with their sophomore album.

Σε μια εποχή που οι μπάντες πιέζονται να κυκλοφορήσουν δίσκους τον ένα πίσω από τον άλλο, χωρίς να επιτρέπουν και στους φίλους της μουσικής να ευχαριστηθούν μια κυκλοφορία ολοκληρωτικά, είναι ωραίο να βλέπω ένα νέο συγκρότημα όπως οι ELM STREET που δεν βιάζονται να κάνουν την επόμενη κίνησή τους. Ο δεύτερος δίσκος τους, που θα παρουσιάσω εδώ, έρχεται 5 χρόνια μετά το πολύ καλό ντεμπούτο τους. Στο μεσοδιάστημα βέβαια κυκλοφόρησαν κι ένα EP του οποίου τα τραγούδια περιέχονται στην παρούσα κυκλοφορία.

In a time when the bands are pushed to release albums one after another, without leaving the metal fans the necessary time to enjoy a release, it is nice to see a new band like ELM STREET who do not rush to make their next move. Their second album, which I will present here, comes five years after their very good debut. In the meantime of course they have also released an EP the songs of which are contained in this release.

Η ιδέα του τι είναι καλό και κακό έχει απασχολήσει την ανθρωπότητα από τότε που άρχισε να χρησιμοποιεί τη λογική. Είναι ένα θέμα φιλοσοφικό, θρησκευτικό αλλά κυρίως μέρος της καθημερινής μας ζωής. Στη νέα τους κυκλοφορία οι DISTANT PAST καταπιάνονται με αυτή τη θεματολογία και καταθέτουν τις δικές τους αντιλήψεις χωρίς όμως να μας καθοδηγούν, αλλά αφήνοντάς μας να βγάλουμε τα δικά μας συμπεράσματα.

Την πρώτη φορά που άκουσα αυτό το συγκρότημα και ήταν το ντεμπούτο τους που είχε ως τίτλο το όνομα της μπάντας, σκέφτηκα ότι ήταν ένα συγκρότημα από τις Η.Π.Α. Μετά από έρευνα που έκανα (αγόρασα και το δίσκο επίσης) έμαθα ότι είχα πέσει σωστά στην ήπειρο, αλλά όχι στη χώρα. Οι DARK AVENGER είναι από τη Βραζιλία κι ενώ η μέταλ σκηνή της χώρας τους είναι κυρίως επηρεασμένη από τον ευρωπαϊκό ήχο, αυτοί εδώ ξεχωρίζουν ή ξεχώριζαν όταν κυκλοφορούσαν  το ντεμπούτο τους.

The first time I listened to this band it was on their debut album which was titled after the band and I thought that DARK AVENGER was a band from the U.S.A. After a research that I did (I also bought the album) I learned that I was right in the continent, but not in the country. DARK AVENGER are from Brazil and while the metal scene of their country is mainly influenced by the European sound, these guys stand out.

Ο Άγγλος κληρικός και συγγραφέας Charles Caleb Colton (1780–1832) έχει πει ότι η μίμηση είναι η πιο ειλικρινής μορφή κολακείας. Οι RUNNING WILD, οι οποίοι είναι αυτοί που δημιούργησαν αυτό που λέμε pirate metal πρέπει να αισθάνονται τελευταία ιδιαίτερα κολακευμένοι. Ειλικρινά έχω χάσει το μέτρημα από συγκροτήματα που προσπαθούν να κινηθούν μουσικά στον ήχο που αυτοί δημιούργησαν. Οι SILVERBONES από την Ιταλία είναι μια νέα μπάντα που φυσικά εμπνέεται από τους RUNNING WILD και αυτός είναι ο πρώτος τους δίσκος.

The English clergyman and writer Charles Caleb Colton (1780-1832) had said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. RUNNING WILD, who are the ones who created what we call pirate metal should feel very flattered lately. Honestly, I've lost the count of bands that try to move musically to the sound they have created. SILVERBONES from Italy is a new band that naturally is inspired by RUNNING WILD and this is their first album.

Τελικά αυτά τα σιωπηλά συναισθήματα, αυτά που φουντώνουν σιγά σιγά και εκδηλώνονται την κατάλληλη στιγμή είναι που δημιουργούν την μεγαλύτερη αίσθηση. Έτσι και οι Έλληνες THE SILENT RAGE, που υπάρχουν από το 2006 έκαναν λίγες και σωστές κινήσεις (έχουν κυκλοφορήσει μέχρι τώρα 1 demo και 2 EP) και εν έτη 2016 αισθάνθηκαν έτοιμοι να κυκλοφορήσουν το πρώτο τους μεγάλης διαρκείας δίσκο.

Από την πρώτη στιγμή που άκουσα το νέο άλμπουμ της μπάντας εντύπωση μου έκανε η ωριμότητα που επιδεικνύει τόσο στο συνθετικό όσο και στο εκτελεστικό σκέλος της μουσικής τους. Έχουν δηλαδή τον   ενθουσιασμό της μπάντας που ξεκινάει τώρα να κάνει το πρώτο μεγάλο της βήμα δισκογραφικά, αλλά από την άλλη δεν μπορείς να μην παρατηρήσεις την εμπειρία και την άνεση που έχουν αποκτήσει μέσα στα χρόνια και αναδεικνύεται σε κάθε σύνθεση που εμπεριέχεται στο παρόν δίσκο.

Eventually these silent feelings, that flare up slowly and manifest at the right time create the greatest impact... So the Greeks THE SILENT RAGE, which exist from 2006 and have made a few, yet right moves (they have released until now 1 demo and 2 EPs) in the year 2016 felt ready to release their first full length studio album.

From the first moment I listened to their new album I was impressed by the maturity exhibited both in their songwriting skills and the way they execute their music. They have the enthusiasm of the band that now makes its first steps in discography, but on the other hand you can’t ignore the experience and the easiness to compose that they have earned through years, which are all highlighted in every composition that is included in the album.

By seeing the cover of the new album of BURN THE OCEAN I was given the impression that the band has ecological concerns. Specifically we see on the cover three smokestacks, of which one is active and emits smoke that pollutes the blue sky. It is impressive that such a simple picture makes you think of such important things.
