ΠΑΡΟΥΣΙΑΣΗ DIAMOND HEAD - Behold the Beginning

DIAMOND HEAD - Behold the Beginning
Metal Blade Records
ΜΟΥΣΙΚΗ ΤΑΥΤΟΤΗΤΑ: Η συγκεκριμένη κυκλοφορία είναι συλλογή όλων των τραγουδιών που μπορεί να βρει κανείς στο κλασσικό δίσκο του συγκροτήματος με τίτλο «Lightning to the Nations» συν το τραγούδι «Waited Too Long».
« I gotta see you moving fast, see you come my way
See the dreams, I hope they last, never fade away
Gotta see the lights above, make it loud tonight
Gotta set it all on fire, set it all alight»

KILMARA - Love Songs and Other Nightmares review

KILMARA  - Love Songs and Other Nightmares
Sony Music Entertainment
I think that every artist needs in each of his/her works to express himself/herself in the best possible way and this motivates them to add new elements in their art or evolve elements that already existed in their previous works. I am writing that because I have listened to the previous album of KILMARA under the title “Don’t Fear the Wolf” and I think that the band in their new album have achieved a little bit of both. I mean they have evolved the elements of the sound they had in their previous release, but they have also added new elements to it. The new elements help to expand their sound variety and not alter the core of their music. In their previous release KILMARA sounded more traditional heavy/power metal and although the references to IRON MAIDEN are still here in their new album, I think that they also have some melodic thrash metal elements in the vein of good old MEGADETH. Besides that they have a modern approach in their sound production and some grooves that bring to mind Swedish melodic death metal bands. In a few words KILMARA have sustained their traditional heavy/power metal sound, but also modernized it a bit. The substance of it all is that KILMARA have managed to release an album that has variety and balances between melodies and heavy riffs. The friends of modern European heavy/power metal will enjoy this…

THE STORYTELLER – Sacred Fire review

 THE STORYTELLER – Sacred Fire
Black Lodge Records
We all love good stories and in the past days a good storyteller was much appreciated. Also if you take into consideration Homer or the bards then some of them also used music to tell their stories. In a way THE STORYTELLER continue this tradition since in their sixth official studio release they choose to tell us stories of heroes, gods and the glorious past days. I think this is the element that gives an epic metal touch to the sound of the band. The core, though, of their sound belongs to heavy/power metal and especially the European one. In their music you can recognize influences of such bands like RUNNING WILD, RIOT, BLIND GUARDIAN and even FALCONER when they decide to add in their compositions a medieval touch. “Sacred Fire” as an album gave me the impression that the band was really enjoying the whole creative process and they wanted through their music to pay tribute to the bands that have influenced them (which pretty much are the ones that I have mentioned above) without though losing their own personal touch. “Sacred Fire” is an album of heavy/power metal in a way that I like it, sincere, passionate, full of imagination and fresh. THE STORYTELLER have managed to use the clichés of the heavy/power metal we love in a way that makes this album highly enjoyable and one of the best releases of the band. Check them out and you won’t be disappointed…

STRANGELET – First Bite review

 STRANGELET – First Bite
Independent
We all have witnessed the new trend in heavy metal scene where bands are trying to sound more old school than the original bands of the 70’s and 80’s. This is kind of cool and some bands have achieved to create good songs with that recipe, but yet most of them seem afraid to add their own personal touch or even show they are a contemporary band. I know that it is good to remember and honor your past and yet you have to add something of your own age if you want our music to go on. STRANGELET from Germany, although they are new and young of age they seem to have the maturity of well experienced musicians and also the enthusiasm that a band of their age should have. These guys seem to have delved in their influences and because of that they are trying to reinvent them or at least give them a modern and contemporary sound. This is not an easy task, but STRANGELET are more than capable to do so and the result is this enjoyable to listen to debut album. “First Bite” carries on the legacy of bands like IRON MAIDEN, RIOT, JUDAS PRIEST, URIAH HEEP, DEEP PURPLE and even BON JOVI with a new and vivid approach that makes all the compositions included here sound original. The band even experiments with some blues/rock elements which are obvious in the track under the title “Hell & Back”. “First Bite” is a strong bite that will stick into your mind forever. So, if you are into the hard rock and traditional metal sound, then you know that this is an album that you should check out…

STARGAZERY – Stars Aligned review

 STARGAZERY – Stars Aligned
Pure Legend Records
If there is a song that made me realize that hard rock and heavy metal was the music that fit my personality perfectly it was the song “Stargazer” of RAINBOW. It seems that these Finnish too consider “Stargazer” as a monumental song and because of that they have given to their band a relevant name. “Stars Aligned” comes 3 years after the debut album of STARGEZARY who don’t seem to rush things and I believe that this is a wise choice since once again they have released an album of high quality. The album balances between the melodic metal and hard rock genre. The musical roots of the band can be found on such bands like RAINBOW (especially the guitar solos and leads) and BLACK SABBATH (DIO and Tony Martin era). The band, though, brings its own fresh interpretation to their influences and in a way they brought also to my mind ASTRAL DOORS (great band indeed) and JORN. Once again STARGAZERY balance perfectly between melody and heaviness and their compositions have a variety of expressions that make the whole album a real experience to listen to and of course a great way to entertain yourselves. In a few words this is an album that every fan of RAINBOW, DIO and BLACK SABBATH should listen to and even buy.
