MEGA COLOSSUS – Hyperglaive
Killer
Metal Records
MEGA
COLOSSUS are no other than COLOSSUS who started as a band in 2005 and existed
with that name until 2016. I don’t know the reasons that led them to add the
word MEGA in their band’s name, but this decision makes this album
their debut release.
In
traditional heavy metal somebody can say that we listen to the same song again
and again. This is an ignorant statement, because if that was so, then we would
stick only to IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST and BLACK SABBATH albums. The fact that
makes our music going on is not the song as it is, but the way you deliver it
to the audience. And I think that everyone that can listen to this band can say
that these guys do a very good job at reinventing traditional heavy metal.
MEGA
COLOSSUS is heavily influenced by the N.W.O.B.H.M. sound mixed with some strong
70’s hard rock touches. If I want to be more specific then I surely can say
that IRON MAIDEN and THIN LIZZY are amongst their biggest influences without
leaving out references to groups like JUDAS PRIEST or SLOUGH FEG. Their sound
is based on catchy melodies supported by a rock solid rhythm section. There are
moments that their sound has an epic feeling that you can also find in groups
like VISIGOTH and SKELATOR. One other
thing that makes this release interesting is the structure of the songs that
have a progressive touch (in the way that IRON MAIDEN did it on the “Seventh
Son of a Seventh Son”) and the changes in them surprise the listener
pleasantly.
I
want also to stand on the lyrics of this album which is one of the reasons,
besides the music, that I love heavy metal music. I am a big fan of fantasy and
science fiction literature and MEGA COLOSSUS have some really great lyrics that
make my mind travel in other worlds while listening to their sound. Actually
their music and lyrics fit perfectly.
So,
if you want to listen to a traditional heavy metal band that incorporates its
influences and transforms them into its own original sound, then MEGA COLOSSUS
is the answer to your quest. It is an album that the more you listen to it the
more it will grow in you.
