Ο Δημήτριος και οι άλλοι μονομάχοι

Ο Δημήτριος Κατής ήταν, είναι και μάλλον θα είναι η πιο απόλυτα cult κιθαριστική περσόνα στον ελλαδικό χώρο, που προφανώς αξίζει τον σεβασμό μας, άσχετα με τις όποιες παραφωνίες του ίδιου σε προσωπικό επίπεδο, όσο και κατά επέκταση σε τηλεοπτικό επίπεδο. Το αγγλόφωνο άλμπουμ τους κυκλοφόρησε το 2006, μετά από τρία στούντιο και το live «Στη Σερβία» CD, πιο πίσω στα 90s. Σε αυτό θα ακούσουμε ένα μάλλον ανομοιόμορφο αμάλγαμα από hard rock σε στυλ Deep Purple κομμάτια, αλλά και πιο heavy επικές πινελιές (με τη μπαντανοβουρτσα βασικά!), μέσα από οχτώ κομμάτια που δεν κρύβουν πως ανήκουν στην εποχή του πρώτου και δεύτερου άλμπουμ των Εξόριστων, αλλά πλέον στα αγγλικά. Δύο Έλληνες, ένας Άγγλος, ένας Κύπριος και ένας... Γιαπωνέζος ντράμερ συμπληρώνουν μια μάλλον προβληματική από άποψη παραγωγής ήχου δουλειά. Όχι, δεν το θάβω, αποδίδω απλά αυτό που ακούω με γραπτό λόγο. Η πορωτική ατμόσφαιρα υποσκάπτεται, δυστυχώς, από τον εκσκαφέα, όσο κι αν οι συνθέσεις αξίζουν διαχρονικά. Σε ένα CD που τα καλύτερά του είναι μονολιθικά, αρχαιοπρεπή, στον τίτλο κομμάτια όπως τα «Tomb of Doom», «Wrath of Zeus», «Marathon», «Seven Maenads».

Dimitrios and the Other Gladiators

Dimitrios Katis was, is, and will probably remain the most utterly cult guitar persona in Greece, who obviously deserves our respect—regardless of any personal flaws he might have, as well as his appearances on television. Their English-language album was released in 2006, following three studio records and the live CD "In Serbia" from the 1990s. On it, you'll hear a rather uneven mixture of hard rock tracks in the style of Deep Purple, along with heavier, epic touches (mainly driven by the band’s "banana brush" style!). The album features eight tracks that clearly belong to the era of the band’s first and second albums by Exoristi, but now in English. Two Greeks, one Brit, one Cypriot, and... a Japanese drummer round out a work that is somewhat problematic in terms of production and sound quality. No, I’m not burying it—I’m simply describing what I hear in written words. The immersive atmosphere is, unfortunately, undermined by the excavator, no matter how timeless the compositions are. The best tracks are monolithic, archaic in style, with titles like "Tomb of Doom," "Wrath of Zeus," "Marathon," and "Seven Maenads."
