FLAMES – Frequency Of Illusion

Groups exist that define a scene. FLAMES belong in this category. With roots tracing back to 1984, they are, by general consensus, one of the first Thrash Metal bands to emerge in Greece, laying the groundwork for the genre in the country. Over the years, their journey has been marked by a consistent release of albums and natural lineup changes. However, the core of the band always remained unwavering: the Kirk brothers, Chris "R.B. Lee" Kirk on guitar and Andy Kirk on bass. This stability is their strength and legacy, now leading the band into their new, highly anticipated era.

Three years after "Resurgence", an album that made a positive impression and reconfirmed FLAMES' presence, the band is returning with new material. The album is titled "Frequency Of Illusion" and is set for release on November 7, 2025. The new record finds the band maintaining the traditional Thrash momentum and speed while also incorporating technical elements into the compositions. FLAMES continue to explore their music, adding melodies to the harsh foundation of their sound, which adds complexity to the final result.

The musical identity of FLAMES on "Frequency Of Illusion" is deeply rooted in classic Thrash, but with significant nuances. Their sound inevitably carries the influence of Slayer, the band that is to Thrash Metal what Iron Maiden is to traditional Heavy Metal. However, FLAMES have timelessly maintained a strong German aesthetic, which directly references top acts of the genre, such as Destruction, Kreator, and Sodom. Additionally, a pleasant return to the Speed Metal trend of their early releases is evident in several compositions. In tracks like "The Great Deceiver", one encounters an epic aesthetic strongly reminiscent of Overkill's Taking Over era, while compositions such as "Drag You Down" bring to mind the dynamic and wild feeling of Running Wild and Rotting Christ.

"Frequency Of Illusion" is more than just a new release. It is proof that FLAMES can bring their past into meaningful communication with the modern Thrash Metal sound, without ever losing the essential elements of their identity. This philosophy is also confirmed by their choice to include "Dressed in Black Suede" as a bonus track on the new album, a title that first appeared on their debut, the historic Made in Hell from 1985. Mark the date: November 7, 2025. A new page in the history of Greek metal is about to be written, simultaneously honoring its roots.
