Το σύγχρονο, επικό Viking Metal χρωστά την δημιουργία του στον Quorthon και το σχήμα του Bathory, σε δίσκους όπως το Hammerheart, το Twilight of the Gods και το Blood on Ice. Αυτό εδώ είναι το πιο πρόσφατο άλμπουμ των Σουηδών αυτών, συνεχιστών του μουσικού είδους και παρακλάδι τόσο του Epic όσο και του Death Metal. Η μπάντα ξεκίνησε από τα τέλη της δεκαετίας του '90 με πιο death ήχο, αλλά σχεδόν από την αρχή η θεματολογία της ήταν Viking και εξελίχθηκε σιγά-σιγά αλλά σταθερά στο πέρασμα των χρόνων. Τα μέλη στον δίσκο είναι οι Johan Hegg (φωνή), Olavi Mikkonen και Johan Söderberg (κιθάρες), Ted Lundström (μπάσο) και Jocke Wallgren (ντράμς), και στα εννέα κομμάτια του συμπυκνώνεται η εμπειρία τόσων χρόνων δισκογραφίας.

Τραγούδια όπως το In the Rimg, The Great Northern Army, Heidrun, Oden Owns You All, Dawn of the Norsemen, Saxons and Vikings με τη συμμετοχή στη φωνή του Biff Byford και των υπολοίπων μελών των Βρετανών Heavy Metal ημίθεων Saxon, το Skagul Rides With Me και άλλα, θεωρούνται οι πιο αντιπροσωπευτικές στιγμές του δίσκου. Οφείλω να ομολογήσω ότι αυτό το άλμπουμ άλλαξε ευχάριστα την άποψή μου για το συγκρότημα.

Invaders from the North

Modern, epic Viking Metal owes its creation to Quorthon and the band Bathory, with albums such as Hammerheart, Twilight of the Gods, and Blood on Ice. This is the latest album from these Swedes, continuers of the genre and branch of both Epic and Death Metal. The band started in the late '90s with a more death metal sound, but almost from the beginning, their thematic focus was on Vikings, evolving slowly but steadily over the years. The band members on this record are Johan Hegg (vocals), Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg (guitars), Ted Lundström (bass), and Jocke Wallgren (drums). All nine tracks encapsulate the experience accumulated over years of recording.

Songs like In the Rimg, The Great Northern Army, Heidrun, Oden Owns You All, Dawn of the Norsemen, and Saxons and Vikings, featuring guest vocals by Biff Byford and other members of the British heavy metal legends Saxon, as well as Skagul Rides With Me, are considered the most representative moments of the album. I must admit that this album pleasantly changed my opinion of the band.
