Άλλο ένα προγνωστικό για το μέλλον; 

Καταρχήν, το εξώφυλλο είναι η δεύτερη γκρίζα εκδοχή, διότι το αρχικό σκοτεινό θεωρήθηκε τρομακτικό. Πού βρίσκονται τώρα οι θιασώτες του «πάλι μια απ' τα ίδια παίζουν»; Εδώ, ναι, οι Σουηδοί με ηγέτες πάντα τον Joacim Cans στη φωνή και τον καταγόμενο από το Μαυροβούνιο κιθαρίστα Oscar Dronjak κάνουν τη διαφορά. Μοντέρνο Power Metal, αλλά μάλλον με επιρροές πιο U.S. Power παρά στα γνωστά τους πεδία δράσης. 

Εξαφάνιση της μασκότ τους, του ιππότη Hector, από τον δίσκο, κάτι που έδωσε τροφή σε φήμες για το σταμάτημα της χρήσης του στα εξώφυλλα (κάτι που πλέον ξέρουμε ότι δεν ίσχυσε). 

Το όλο θεματικό παιχνίδι του άλμπουμ αφορά μια πανδημία που μετατρέπει τους ανθρώπους σε ζόμπι. Καθόλου πρωτότυπο σαν σενάριο, τόσο ταινίας όσο και δέκα χρόνια μετά, και στην πραγματικότητα. Βέβαια, αντί των ζόμπι, είχαμε... δόσεις, αλλά αυτό είναι μεγάλο και θλιβερό θέμα.

 

Μουσικά, είναι τόσο σοβαρό που προβληματίζει τον μέσο οπαδό «με σπαθί στο χέρι και κάτοχο πανοπλίας». Η στροφή αυτή του ύφους, εμένα τουλάχιστον, με κράτησε, αφού τα κομμάτια του δίσκου έχουν πολύ ενδιαφέρον. 

Καλά, μια χαρά είναι ως σύνολο· δεν είναι ούτε το δικό τους «Load», ούτε το «Risk» ή το «Chameleon», όπως ανέφερε μια μικρή μειοψηφία τότε. Ειλικρινά, καμία σχέση.

 

Αν θέλετε, τα χαρακτηριστικά power metal κλισέ τους, εδώ θα τα βρείτε, πάντως, απλά είναι καλά καμουφλαρισμένα! 

Εν τέλει, υπάρχει πολύ φρεσκάδα ηχητικά, κάτι που τελικά δεν άρεσε σε όλους τους φίλους τους. 

Η διασκευή στο «Send Me A Sign» των Ούγγρων cult Metalers Pokolgép, καθώς και τα «Patient Zero» (ανατριχιαστικό, αν αναλογιστούμε τα μελλοντικά γεγονότα), «B.Y.M.», «The Outlaw», «I Refuse», «Immortalized», «Redemption», είναι κομματάρες. Περίεργα, αυτό το CD τους είναι από τα πολύ συμπαθή άλμπουμ τους στο αυτί μου.

Another prognostication for the future? 

Firstly, the album cover is the second gray version, as the original dark one was considered too frightening. Where are the proponents of "same old, same old" now? Here, yes, the Swedes, led consistently by Joacim Cans on vocals and the Montenegrin-born guitarist Oscar Dronjak, make the difference. Modern Power Metal, but perhaps with more U.S. Power influences than their usual style. 

The disappearance of their mascot, the knight Hector, from the album cover, sparked rumors about the band stopping its use on covers—which we now know was not the case. 

The thematic concept of the album revolves around a pandemic that turns people into zombies. Not particularly original as a scenario—whether in film or, ten years later, in reality. Of course, instead of zombies, there were... doses, but that’s a large and sad topic. 

Musically, the subject is so serious that it raises concern among the average fan “with sword in hand and armor wearer.” This shift in style, at least for me, kept me engaged since the songs on the album are very interesting. 

Overall, it’s quite solid—not their “Load”, “Risk”, or “Chameleon”, as a small minority claimed back then. Honestly, no comparison. 

If you want, you’ll find their characteristic Power Metal clichés here, but they’re well disguised! 

Ultimately, there’s a lot of sonic freshness, which, surprisingly, didn’t sit well with all their fans. 

The cover of "Send Me A Sign" by Hungarian cult metallers Pokolgép, along with tracks like "Patient Zero" (creepily relevant considering future events), "B.Y.M.," "The Outlaw," "I Refuse," "Immortalized," and "Redemption," are all excellent songs. Strangely, this album is one of my favorite listens of theirs.
