– All Fear The Axeman - An Italian Tribute To Omen
My Graveyard Productions
I’d like to express my thoughts clearly: in my view,
OMEN is the only epic metal band that can truly stand alongside the genre’s
pioneers, MANOWAR. Listening to their first three albums is an experience that
evokes profound awe, thanks to the exceptional quality of their compositions
and the vivid imagery they create. J.D. Kimball's passionate and lyrical voice
is a journey in itself, showcasing a distinctive style that is unmistakably his
own.
The deep appreciation I hold for OMEN is shared, and
perhaps even amplified, by several prominent Italian bands featured in this
collection: Walpurgis Night, Aeternal Seprium, Axevyper, Stonewall, Etrusgrave,
National Suicide, Bringer of War, Darking, Asgard, Martiria, Alltheniko,
Balrog, Red Warlock, Prodigal Sons, and Icy Steel.
Most of the covers in this collection adhere closely
to the original compositions, yet each band infuses its unique flair—sometimes
subtly, other times more boldly. While I want to honor all the contributions
here, I’d like to highlight a few covers that particularly resonated with me
for personal, subjective reasons.
First, Aeternal Seprium's rendition of “Battle Cry”
channels a feel reminiscent of bands like DOMINE and DOOMSWORD. Next is
Stonewall’s take on “Be My Wench,” which brings a RUNNING WILD energy through
its frantic pace. Etrusgrave delivers perhaps the most original cover in the
collection with “In The Arena,” which feels like an authentic creation in its
own right. National Suicide adds a hint of ACCEPT and OVERKILL to “Termination,”
giving it a refreshing twist. I also thoroughly enjoyed Darking's cover of
“March On,” Martiria's interpretation of “Don't Fear The Night,” and Red
Warlock's rendition of “Ruby Eyes (Of The Serpent).” This isn’t to diminish the
quality of the other contributions, which each offer their own compelling
experiences for listeners.
I have a deep appreciation for projects and releases
like this one. This particular compilation manages to encapsulate the greatness
of OMEN, beautifully filtered through the vibrant lens of the Italian metal
scene and the talented artists that represent it.
