Μετά το ντεμπούτο τους “Heading for Tomorrow” πριν δύο χρόνια, ο κιθαρίστας Kai Hansen και συνυπεύθυνος για τη χρυσή εποχή των Helloween με τον Ralph Scheepers στη φωνή, ο Uli Kusch στα κρουστά (ο οποίος με τη σειρά του θα πάει στους Helloween μελλοντικά), ο Dirk Schalchter, επίσης κιθάρα, και ο μπασίστας Uwe Wessel μας δίνουν το δεύτερο δείγμα της μουσικής τους γραφής. Τώρα, θα πω την αλήθεια που με κατατρέχει. Με χαλάει απείρως αυτό το τουλάχιστον γελοίο εξώφυλλο δίσκου που διάλεξαν! Τόσο πολύ που για χρόνια αυτό το CD μάζευε σκόνη στα συρτάρια της δισκοθήκης μου. Πρακτικά, ακόμη μαζεύει. Μουσικά, έχουμε εξελιγμένο το 90s Power Metal που ακούσαμε στο πρώτο, με πιο μεστές ιδέες μουσικά και συνθετικά, και αρκετές δόσεις στιχουργικού χιούμορ (γνωστό τρικ και στους Helloween!), όπως το τραγούδι “Rich & Famous”. Δεν έχω να του προσάψω σαν περιεχόμενο κάτι κακό ή αρνητικό, τουναντίον! “As Time Goes By”, “Changes”, “One With the World”, “Father and Son”, “Dream Healer”, “Start Running”, “(We Won't) Stop the War” είναι χαρακτηριστικά δείγματα του άλμπουμ και κλασικά των "ακτίνων Γάμμα". Απλά, δεν είναι το αγαπημένο μου άλμπουμ από το συγκρότημα. Ο τίτλος πάει στο επόμενο, “Insanity and Genius” (1994). Παρόλα αυτά, αν εξαιρέσουμε το εξώφυλλο, έχουμε ένα αρκετά καλό μουσικό έργο.

Turning to... what?

After their debut Heading for Tomorrow two years ago, guitarist Kai Hansen—who was also responsible for the golden era of Helloween alongside Ralph Scheepers on vocals—Uli Kusch on drums (who would later join Helloween), Dirk Schalchter, also on guitar, and bassist Uwe Wessel present us with their second musical offering. Now, I’ll tell you the truth that has been bothering me. I am utterly annoyed by the at least somewhat ridiculous album cover they chose! So much so that for years, this CD gathered dust in the drawers of my record collection. Practically, it still does. Musically, it features an evolved 90s Power Metal sound, similar to their first album, with more solid musical and compositional ideas, and plenty of lyrical humor (a well-known trick among Helloween!), as exemplified by songs like “Rich & Famous.” I have nothing negative or critical to say about its content—on the contrary! Tracks like “As Time Goes By,” “Changes,” “One With the World,” “Father and Son,” “Dream Healer,” “Start Running,” and “(We Won't) Stop the War” are characteristic samples of the album and classics of the “Gamma Ray” style. However, it’s just not my favorite album by the band. The next one, Insanity and Genius (1994), takes that spot. Nevertheless, aside from the album cover, we have a quite good musical work.
