Καλοκαίρι 1996 αρχές Ιουνίου βρήκα σε κασέτα από το κλασσικό υπόγειο δισκάδικο Fokionos Records τότε επι της Φωκίωνος Νέγρη αυτό το άσπρο διαμάντι....Το πρώτο άλμπουμ που αγόρασα από Metallica με το χαρτζιλίκι μου. Η άσπρη πλαστική κασέτα σύντομα έφαγε απομαγνητοφώνηση από τις εκατοντάδες φορές που τα τεράστια τόσο διάρκεια όσο και αξία κομμάτια του σαν τα Blackened, ...And Justice For All, One, Shortest Straw, Harvester of Sorrow έπαιζαν στο διπλό Philips κασετόφωνο μου. Τέλος των αναμνήσεων, εδώ έχουμε ίσως πραγματικά το τελευταίο κλασικό τους άλμπουμ, σίγουρα το τελευταίο για τα 80's. Με Jason Newsted στο μπάσο (με την τόσο περίεργη μίξη που δεν ακούγεται καν!) να έχει αντικαταστήσει από την περιοδεία του Master of Puppets τον τεράστιο Cliff Burton που έφυγε τόσο άδικα.

Grandfather, tell me a story...:

In the summer of '96, early June, destiny led me to a treasure trove within a cassette tape at the legendary underground record emporium, Fokionos Records, nestled on Fokionos Negri Street. This serendipitous encounter marked a pivotal moment in my musical odyssey, for it was the inaugural Metallica album I procured with my hard-earned allowance.

The pristine white cassette, the canvas for my musical indulgence, endured countless spins of epochal anthems— "Blackened," "...And Justice For All," "One," "Shortest Straw," and "Harvester of Sorrow"—on my trusty double Philips cassette player.

Let us momentarily set aside nostalgic reveries and recognize that this album stands as the zenith of their classics, a crowning jewel of the '80s. With Jason Newsted on bass (notable for a mix that struck an unconventional chord), he admirably stepped into the formidable void left by the lamented departure of the indomitable Cliff Burton during the Master of Puppets tour.
