THE ORDER OF CHAOS – Apocalypse Moon Review

THE ORDER OF CHAOS – Apocalypse Moon

Killer Metal Records

We will stay in Canada and I will present to you another female fronted band that differs from CATEGORY VI, but they also have has common ground the inspiration they draw from the traditional heavy metal sound. “Apocalypse Moon” is the third studio album of the band THE ORDER OF CHAOS.

It is really hard to put a tag on their sound since they incorporate many different metal styles and have the talent to form into solid compositions. As the basis of their music we find of course classic heavy metal, but upon it they add influences from the modern melodic thrash metal sound and the Swedish melodic death metal scene. Their compositions are characterized by speed, highly skilled guitar playing that reflects on the solo and the lead parts of their music and of course melody that is combined with grooves and some thrash and melodic death metal riffs. They also use in some songs piano like the track “Downfall” and “The Devil that you Know”. As for their influences when it moves on the traditional metal paths they reminded me of 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, INTO ETERNITY and when they turn into a more aggressive style, then they remind me a bit of late KREATOR and ARCH ENEMY. Besides the skillful musicianship, THE ORDER OF CHAOS trademark is the voice of Amanda Kiernan who moves easily from clear dynamic to harsh death/thrash vocals and of course gives a dramatic touch to the compositions.

All in all, this is a very good album that balances between modern and traditional heavy metal and my only objection, if you can say that, is that sometimes the band throws in a song more ideas than a listener can grasp due to the short – normal duration of the compositions (some songs sound a little bit rushed). Anyway, as I said it is a good release and it gets even better each time you will listen to it.
