HILDR VALKYRIE - Revealing the Heathen Sun Review

HILDR VALKYRIE - Revealing the Heathen Sun

Stygian Crypt Productions

The first time that I listened to the voice of Hildr Valkyrie is from her participation in the folk/Viking metal projects of FOLKEARTH and FOLKODIA. She has a really beautiful voice and the way she interprets really manages to travel you back in time. So, besides her participation in the above mentioned bands, Hildr has her own band to express her own musical ambitions.

“Revealing the Heathen Sun” is her sophomore album and it comes after 9 years from her debut release entitled “Shield Brothers of Valhalla”. The new album of HILDR VALKYRIE in comparison with their debut emphasizes more into metal without losing at all the pagan and Viking metal attitude that characterizes all the releases of the band so far. The music of the group is a mixture of folk melodies along with traditional and extreme metal tunes. The way they craft their songs reminded me of known bands like early AMORPHIS, the epic era of BATHORY and even ROTTING CHRIST.

Lyrically now the band is what we call Viking metal since all the stories here have to do with Viking religion, history and mythology. I think that the only exception to that rule is the song “The Primordial Sky God” which is inspired from the ancient Greek tradition.

So, fans of pagan metal sound check this release out. I am sure that you will find a lot of good moments here.
