METALL – Metal Heads Review

METALL – Metal Heads
Iron Shield Records
The story of METALL goes deep in the past and more specifically in the early 80’s. The band was formed in 1982 in Eastern Germany (if you don’t know what that is, go check a history book or Wikipedia). The band was active until 1991, after changing their name in 1988 into HEADLESS when they split. In that era they had managed to record songs for the biggest radio stations of Eastern Germany and some of them reached the number 1 place in the rock metal charts of that country. In 2013 the band was reformed under its original band name and “Metal Heads” is their debut album. I think that here fits the saying rather late than never.

Here in Greece we often argue if we like more the U.S. or the German metal sound, but I think that METALL won’t put us on that debate. I think that their sound balances between the U.S. and German metal sound. Actually if you can imagine the riffing of bands like UNREST, GRAVE DIGGER, ACCEPT with a thrash edge that has strong references to such bands like METALLICA, METAL CHURCH and VICIOUS RUMORS, then I think you have a nice idea about the band’s sound.

The whole album has this raw and energetic feeling that a fan of Teutonic and bay area thrash metal would enjoy and the band really shows to enjoy and love what it does. The only disadvantage of the album according to me is that it lacks in strong melodies that can make the songs memorable. If the band works on that bit more then I am sure they will give us something memorable. Until then check out this release, especially if you are into heavy/thrash music.
