REQUIEM’S EMBRACE, the latest ensemble to emerge from Italy, is the brainchild of guitarist Alex Mele, renowned in the power metal community from his work with KALEDON, and vocalist Eleonora Damiano, formerly of EPINIKION. Completing the lineup are Silvia Pistolesi of HELLUCINATION on bass, Francesco Ciancio of KALEDON on rhythm guitar, Fabio Bernardi of RIVER OF CHANGE on keyboards, and Manuele Di Ascenzo of IMPERIAL AGE on drums. This constellation of seasoned musicians heralds a significant new presence in the metal scene.

Their debut release, "Nightmares and Fairytales," is characterized as a mini-album, though with its three tracks spanning over twelve minutes, it more aptly fits the description of an EP. Terminology aside, what truly matters is the substance of their work.

The sound of REQUIEM’S EMBRACE is distinguished by its melodic and symphonic elements, prominently featuring the evocative vocals of Eleonora Damiano. Musically, the band navigates through melodic power and heavy metal, with subtle hints of progressive metal influences. Their style draws parallels with bands like KAMELOT, RHAPSODY, KALEDON (unsurprisingly, given the shared members), ANCIENT BARDS, AND LEAVES’ EYES.

 

The three tracks presented in this release offer a diverse auditory experience while maintaining cohesive unity. The album opens with the atmospheric and theatrically dramatic "Lady Foxglove." This is followed by "Scarlet Meadows," a track marked by its vigor, dynamism, and epic feel, reminiscent of the finest moments of bands such as RHAPSODY, KALEDON, and the German ORDEN OGAN. The EP concludes with "Nightmares," a composition imbued with a strong U.S. metal aura, echoing influences from bands like QUEENSRYCHE and KAMELOT.

In summary, "Nightmares and Fairytales" is a captivating release of melodic symphonic power metal from a band that honors the genre's traditions while boldly experimenting to forge their own distinct sound. The three tracks impress with their quality, creativity, and maturity, promising a bright and innovative future.
