MINDCRUSHERS – Born In Doom Review

MINDCRUSHERS – Born In Doom

Independent

MINDCRUSHERS characterize themselves as a project although in the bio they have posted on their facebook page this project seems to be a full member band. They come from Italy and they were formed in 2010. In 2011 they released their first demo and 5 years later and in specific in 18 – 3 – 2016 they released their debut album “Born in Doom” which as you have already realized I am about to present to you here.

The cover of the album is a dark photograph of what seems to be the charon with his scythe. It is a cover that misled me as a reference to their musical style. It is a cover that in the early 90’s you could see in black metal releases. However, the cover fits perfectly to the concept of the album since it has to do with death in all aspects of human life both naturally and philosophically.

The above mentioned concept is supported by the music which is dark aggressive and mainly moves on mid tempo rhythms. Their sound is a blend of thrash metal with heavy metal touches. Personally speaking they reminded me of bands like CORONER, METALLICA along with some BLACK SABBATH and IRON MAIDEN touches. The voice of Obscure (singer) is also harsh and reminded me of old school black/thrash metal bands of the 80’s. Actually in my mind come bands like HELLHAMMER and BATHORY.

“Born in Doom” is not the album that will immediately make you jump up from enthusiasm. It is not catchy as modern days demand. It is an album that demands your attention and needs you to give it some time in order to grow into you. It is though an album that delivers what it promises and also a good start for a new band.
