VÖRGUS - White Trash Hellraisers Review

VÖRGUS - White Trash Hellraisers

Sweden is mostly known in the extreme metal sound for its melodic death metal bands. We live, though, in an era that the traditional heavy metal sound is back and it seems that even in Sweden there are some bands that want to play extreme metal based on more traditional or old school forms if you prefer. One of these bands are definitely VORGUS who only release an album when they feel ready to do so. At least that is what their sophomore album proves which comes 7 years after their debut.

From the first notes that you will listen to you will realize that VORGUS move into the raw speed/thrash metal sound as it was formed in the 80’s. I am sure that if it was released back then it would be described as black metal. All the songs that areincluded here have a strong British metal essence and if I want to be more specific, they carry the brutality of VENOM and the rock ‘n’ roll attitude of MOTORHEAD. There are, though, more influences here that come from bands like EXCITER and early CELTIC FROST and HELLHAMMER too. However the band, because of its true love for this sound, manages to craft songs that are old school but yet they sound fresh. If there is a flaw in this release then I would say that someone might find that the album needed more variety….

“White Trash Hellraisers” is an album that respects the tradition of the old school extreme sound and yet is fresh and reflects the band’s passion for heavy metal. I think that you will like it, especially if you are a fan of old school speed/thrash metal.
