THE EVERSCATHED – Scars to Bare review

THE EVERSCATHED – Scars to Bare
In Death Records
THE EVERSCATHED may be around as a band since 2003 but their story goes further back and more particularly in 1996 when ENMORTEM was founded. That band kept going till 2002 but then their sound changed so the guys in the band felt it was about time they changed their moniker as well… and thus THE EVERSCATHED was born.

Now since this is my first acquaintance with the band I can’t give you much insight other than the fact that this is their third full length work that came out five years after their sophomore titled “Still Screaming World”. What the band delivers is death metal of the old school kind… however, what kind of death metal are we referring to? Here things are a bit complicated since the line is blurred. You see THE EVERSCATHED deliver a mixture of pure American death metal with the more melodic Scandinavian type. These elements may be old fashioned and generic, but I have to say that this unity is something you don’t come across very often so this makes the end result pretty unique and special. The vocals are on the more guttural side, though you get to discern most of the lyrics, while never losing their force and aggressiveness. The rhythm section is solid and concrete as it should be in every death metal album and the guitars deliver nice riffs and melodies. Like I said THE EVERSCATHED may have not reinvented the wheel, but they obviously know what they are doing… they know how to write and deliver cool death metal!
