Well, I am not an expert on what exactly stoner metal is and I don’t think that anyone can tell you exactly since like all the other genres of hard rock and metal music, it has variety. However, the main element of this genre is the mixture of the 70’s rock, hard rock, psychedelic rock and heavy metal elements given though in a modernized and heavier sounding way. TWINGIANT from Phoenix Arizona (U.S.A.) is a representative of this kind of sound and “Devil Down” is their sophomore release. So let me tell you a few things about it…
THE COVER: The cover is quite simple actually and I don’t have much to say. On a black background you can see a red diagonal line.  Also you can see the band name and the title of the album. Who knows? Maybe the red line symbolizes the devil in a way. You are free to make your own assumptions and you might find a more creative interpretation of the cover.
MUSICAL STYLE: As I mentioned at the beginning of the review TWINGIANT is a band that plays stoner metal. This means that they do have grooves in the tradition of BLACK SABBATH, but that is not all. The whole album has a strong 70’s feeling which comes in a very natural way for the band to the point that made me think they actually come from that era. I personally found also some references to boogie and southern rock, but the fact is that TWINGIANT create music that you can listen to and have a really good time.
CONCLUSION: TWINGIANT really know the way to compose catchy songs and their new album is an oasis in this genre since it has fresh ideas and it can be easily listened to by people who are not in this specific genre, but love the 70’s hard rock feeling. Yep, it would be nice if you can check it out.
