SYNAXARIA - Sadness of Memories review

 SYNAXARIA - Sadness of Memories
Independent
SYNAXARIA is a Greek word and it is something that we meet in the Orthodox Christian Church. In simple words they are books that include the life of saints. This word gave inspiration to Dzmitry & Natallia Kramoushchanka to name their band which started back in 2010. Initially the band was playing industrial metal (have this in mind), but they decided to change their musical style and this change reflects on their album entitled “Sadness of Memories”.

THE COVER: On the cover we can see a red-headed lady dressed in black looking sad. Also on the background you can see an old kind of clock and the whole album has these kinds of colors that we mostly see in autumn. It is a cover that passes to the viewer a melancholic feeling. In my opinion is that it fits perfectly to the sound and philosophy of the band.
MUSICAL STYLE: I think that the title and the cover of the album give strong hints of where this band moves musically. Their main intention is to create to the listeners feelings of melancholy and sadness without forgetting to add the necessary rock metal energy. The band has catchy melodies and of course variety since musically they move from the pure gothic rock and metal sound to some dark electro elements (it seems that you can’t forget your past). It is also obvious that the band holds a great admiration for bands like SISTERS OF MERCY and PARADISE LOST, but they don’t copy them, just use them as inspiration.
CONCLUSION: SYNAXARIA seem to have a clear vision of what they want to do musically and also know the way to achieve that. As a result of that, they have created a beautiful dark album that manages to transmit its emotions to the listener.
