ANACHRONAEON – The Oracle and the Keyholder review on BEHIND THE VEIL WEBZINE

ANACHRONAEON – The Oracle and the Keyholder
Stygian Crypt Productions
ANACHRONAEON is a band from Sweden that has been around for over a decade now and if we count the band’s existence under different monikers then we have to add a few more years. Why am I mentioning this in the beginning? Simply because I want to state that this is a veteran band that has had its time to form its sound and approach.
“The Oracle and the Keyholder” is a concept album about a man who has forsaken everything for the sake of his art and while in coma he gets to relive his life and evaluate situations, feelings and his path in general. A deep idea that can work as food for thought since I believe that most of us have at one point or another thought about it and what we would or could have done differently if we were given a second chance… at least this is something I get to ponder upon occasionally, the turning points in our lives and how we handle them. Anyway let’s move on to the music part of this album… the fifth studio release finds ANACHRONAEON in good shape and mood and this means that they are here to deliver top notch melodic death metal the way it was formed and molded in their home country. However, I want to clear some things out here… ANACHRONAEON have nothing to do with modern elements, their music has no keyboards or mellow parts. It is melodic death metal but in the old school way. This means that it’s death metal with melodic parts, nice leads and a bitter atmosphere surrounding the songs that enhances the meaning and depth of the lyrics. The rhythm section is solid and heavy, the vocals are deep death metal growls the way I like them, the guitars are catchy and also deliver nice solos that enrich the variety of the compositions. There are also some piano moments in some songs that make them sound darker and more melancholy. All in all, a melodic death metal release that is definitely worth your attention!
